I honestly don’t understand the decisions of some of the restaurants here in Kyoto. I went to this restaurant a few times. The food is ok. I liked their pepper fries. The leek pizza was also ok, but it was quite greasy and not nearly as fresh and light as the photo made it seem.
I returned tonight to eat again. Unfortunately, due to a knee injury, I cannot sit at bar tables, but they would not allow me to sit at the tables that were not hightops. They were holding them for a reservation…AN HOUR AND A HALF in the future. I would have been long done by that time, assuming my food came within a reasonable time. They’re located in a train station. How many people really want to linger?

Read moreI went to this restaurant based on the reviews here, and the menu lived up to the hype in the first reading. But here’s the rub: nothing we ordered was anything other than okay. The “Pizza dried baby sardine with sansyo pepper and Kujo leek” was soggy underneath, and tasted only of the leek. The “Mushroom sautéed in anchovy butter” was a mess to look at, and nothing worthwhile eating. If an anchovy had been anywhere near it, you couldn’t tell. The “Kujo leek Negiyaki” was the best of the dishes, but rated no higher than okay.

I tried No.5 Curry and Rice with Fried pork cutlet (don-katsu) on top and I must say, the bread coating was thin and cripy in just the right way and the pork inside remained juicy the whole time (I took about 15 min to finish). If you have any problem with Japanese rice causing constipation, this restaurant may be good place, as their rice feels less sticky in both mouth and stomach, and less sweet compared to some brand rice you may taste in Tokyo or the East area.
