Do NOT book this hotel!!! They completely ruined our stay in Kyoto during our honeymoon and wasted our last evening there!!!
The hotel staff are unprofessional, unhelpful, and careless!
Two days before the end of our stay, we called the front desk to ask how much it would cost to ship our luggage to our next hotel in Osaka and until what time we could bring them. The receptionist told us we could bring the suitcases “anytime during the day”, but refused to give even a price estimate, saying they had to “measure the luggage first.” We even asked for a quote for the largest size — still refused!
The next evening, at around 6:30 PM, we went to send the luggage. Another staff member at the reception told us to “hurry up, the truck is leaving soon.” My husband rushed down with the bags within five minutes — and then a different staff member suddenly said the service was already closed for the day! Unbelievable! Just minutes earlier, they told us to hurry and bring the bags!
What followed was a two-hour nightmare — instead of apologizing or offering any compensation, the staff just kept sending my husband from place to place, trying to make us find another delivery service elsewhere — even though they were the ones who messed everything up! Our entire last evening in Kyoto was wasted because of their complete incompetence.
On another note, when we first arrived for check-in, we were exhausted (like every traveler), and the check-in process was long, confusing, and frustrating. The staff handed us piles of printed papers, random slips, and unclear information — way too much to handle while holding several suitcases. It was the last thing we needed after a long trip.
And breakfast? Extremely disappointing. At first glance, it looks like there’s a big variety — but it’s completely misleading. Most options are repetitive and unsuitable for many people. Personally, I couldn’t find anything I felt comfortable eating in the mornings. Most shocking of all: no vegetables at all — not even something basic like tomatoes, cucumbers, or lettuce. No pancakes, no tuna salad, no egg salad — nothing you’d expect from a normal breakfast buffet.
Finally, before our stay, I sent the hotel a message letting them know we were on our honeymoon and that the experience was very important to us. Clearly, they completely ignored it and turned it into one of the worst hotel experiences we’ve ever had.
A huge disappointment. We are angry, exhausted, and frustrated. Absolutely do NOT recommend this hotel!
Two days later update: On top of everything, the suitcase arrived with a...
Read moreBe careful if you forgot your belonging!! The housekeeping will take it.
I did the check out on 19 June 2025 in the morning and i kept the luggage at the reception. When i was around Kyoto, i just remembered that i forgot my 2 bags of kitkat in the refrigerator in the room. Then i asked my local friend to contact the hotel. Unfortunately the hotel can be contacted only through email. My friend sent the email asking about my kitkat. No answer until i backed to the hotel to take my belongings. I asked the reception if the housekeeping found my chocolate in the refrigerator. He could not find anything on lost & found list from my room. Then he said that i could check the room with him. The refrigerator was empty.
Then i would like to take my luggage at the reception. Suddenly he called me and took something from reception office. He found my isotonic drink (half empty) and my ice packs. It was also inside the refrigerator. But my KitKats are gone.
It is not about the price of the KitKat. The price is cheap. I bought them in Japan because i could not find them in different flavors in my country.
The reception just said that their housekeeping are honest and will hand it over if they find the lost items of the guests.
Honesty is different here. If the housekeeping is honest, they will hand over my KitKats to the reception and it will be mentioned on lost & found list. Not only the rest of my Isotonic drink is handed over. Even the guests already check out, it does not mean that the housekeeping is allowed to take the belonging (lost items) of the guests. It should be kept in general 6 months except the food stuffs. But they cannot just took it without keeping on lost & found list. Honesty and image are important things in hospitality industry if you want to have loyal customers.
If it is just a little thing, they took it. I am sure they will take the expensive lost items from the room.
As a silver member the check out will be at 12 AM but the reception did not inform until i asked. At other Via Inn hotels, the receptionist always informs the guests with the silver member status that the check out will be at 12 AM instead of 10 AM. Via Inn other cities accept a counter check in and gave many informations to the guests. It is no problem at all for self service check in, but the front office agent should give the information about the check out time and the facilities of the hotel. I know the information because i have been stayed at...
