Kyoto Wakuden — Restaurant in Kyoto

Went in to see availability for lunch around noon. one of the male waiters looked me up and down after i signaled to him and completely ignored me. One of the female waitresses noticed and started to come over but the male waiter stopped her and said something to her pointing at us then she denied us a table in broken english. then when i spoke japanese, told me that it would be an hour wait. It’s more on the expensive side and we were happy to pay for a nice meal but the guy took one look and discriminated against us for being foreigners (despite the fact that i am half japanese and can speak the language fluently). The way they completely switched up when they realized I was japanese and started acting differently and peeking in, i only saw Japanese people at the time that I was there. Would not recommend coming here without a reservation and even then you may get treated differently if you are not Japanese or cannot speak the language well and very fluently. There are many other places that you can have a nice meal at that is authentic and welcoming...

The food is excellent for lunch course 7000yen + They did not have kariyasu set even thou I went at 1115am Ingredient quality and seasoning is top notch The sawara saikyo yaki glaze is thin layer of subtle sweetness and not too salty with kinkan at the side, something I could never do at home. Sashimi was tai?, with sake lees , very interesting. I think their main with tai sashimi is better than the tai ochazuke preference wise even thou exection is perfect. Also drink choices like sansho soda , which was pretty good Makes me wonder about the main shop kodaiji wakuden. Svc is not too intrusive although it's better if you can understand some basic japanese. Do note this basic tier of the wakuden...

Disappointing service. No one greeted me when I went into the restaurant until 10 minutes later. No english speaking staff, so I needed to use google translate. Staff could not properly explain what the dishes were. They just gave it to me, pointed at the menu and left. Also, when Japanese customers leave, all staff members said thank you. But they did not say thank you to me as I left. Was it because I was a foreigner?? I don’t know but at this price point of 10000 yen it is absolutely unacceptable.
