Toshoan — Restaurant in Kyoto

I was quite disappointed by the pancakes! As a coeliac person, it is hard for me to eat in Japan so when I heard about rice flour pancakes, I was really excited! Unfortunately, I was quite disappointed, the pancakes tasted more like a soufflé omelette, you really taste the eggs a lot! I feel that instead of making sweet pancakes, they could do savoury pancakes with avocado and bacon for instance! Here it is served with butter, I felt that it really did not go well with the pancakes, the marple syrup yes but butter absolutely not, it made the pancakes really fatty and not tasty! Overall, the pancakes tasted quite bland, they should try to make it more tatsy by adding caramel for instance or more flavour to it! In addition, I was quite disappointed by the coffee latte as it tasted like it was made from a coffee vending machine! Despite the food, the staff was absolutely lovely! Everything about Toshōan was great. The food I’ve had was delectable and such a treat to be safe with my dietary restrictions! I tried the pancakes in the shop. Fluffy, wonderful texture that paired so well with the salty butter and scoops of delicious anko and some maple syrup. The flavor profile of this all together was great. I bought some things to bring away as gifts, but also a “pudding” (purin) to go and had it that evening. Honestly, probably the best purin I’ve ever had in Japan (and likely out). Great smooth texture with a scrumptious topping. I am now trying to figure out if I can make time to swing by one more time before I head to Tokyo in the morning since they were sold out of a few things and I know how great they are. 京都二条条城から ほど近いところにある あんこ菓子専門店 前回 カフェがお休みだったので 改めて お伺いしてきました

全ての商品は “ あんこが主役 “ シュークリーム、パウンドケーキ等の洋菓子から ようかん、ぜんざいなどの和菓子まで 本当に 様々なあんこのお菓子がありました

カフェでは 色々迷ったのですが やはり 最初はこちらのお店のあんこを 食べてみたかったので あんこの食べ比べをチョイス

珍しい箱型の もなかと 粒あん2種とこしあん 白あん（こしあん）、抹茶あんが乗っています 更に 丸久小山園さんの ほうじ茶まで付いた かなりお得なセットでした

こんなに あんこばっかり食べ切れるかな？ と思っていたのですが それぞれに特徴があって美味しく いただいた後も 口の中に甘さが残ることなく スッキリとした甘さの 美味しいあんこばかりでした あんこ好き、和菓子好きの方にオススメ出来ます。 ご馳走さまでした (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵) ♡

今日(6/13)11時くらいに伺いました。 待ち時間等はありませんでした。 カフェ巡りのご参考になったら 嬉しく思います。

【 Anko (red bean paste) comparison / Toshoan 】

All of the products are "Anko (red bean paste) is the main ingredient", from Western sweets such as cream puffs and pound cakes to Japanese sweets such as Yokan (sweet bean jelly) and Zenzai (sweet bean jelly).

At the café, I had a hard time deciding which one to order, but I chose the "Anko Eating Comparison" menu! It has a rare box-shaped monaka (bean paste), two kinds of tsubu-an (sweet red bean paste), koshi-an (sweet red bean paste), shiro-an (white bean paste), and matcha-an (powdered green tea bean paste). The set also included houjicha (roasted green tea) from Marukyu Kozanen, making it a very reasonable set!

I wondered if I would be able to eat all these anko (sweet bean paste). I was not sure if I would be able to finish all of them, but each one had its own unique flavor and was delicious. The sweetness never remained in my mouth even after eating. Thank you very much for the food!
