Shalom the Lord — Restaurant in Kyoto

We found this place by accident, as it didn't even overtly look like a restaurant as we passed by (on a street full of little restaurants that were full to bursting).

The atmosphere was very unique, almost regally-English, and the owner was absolutely wonderful with spectacular service skills. The food was sushi on rice, which provided us a great variety of different (and spectacular quality!) sushi to try. The owner topped it off with a splendid fruit-cake dessert on the house, to boot! We left with very full stomachs, very satisfied palates, and our wallets barely noticed the difference!

It was so good that when we saw a couple looking warily at the menu on the roadway, we felt obliged to run out and let them know that it was, in fact, a restaurant, and a darned good one at that!

It's places like these that truly sadden me that Japanese culture really does not let one tip for a great meal/service, but hopefully a very well-deserved...

I was fortunate to stumble upon this restaurant. I had the simple prix fixe offering of sushi selection, miso soup, and beverages, which was affordable (inexpensive comparatively), well prepared and presented, and delivered with a kindness that exceeded expectations. Extremely pleasant man who spoke English. I believe he is the restaurant owner. I was drawn to the name of the restaurant and wanted to give it a try. Food was fresh and very reasonably priced, considering the location, 2 blocks away from Nishiki market. I leave Kyoto in a few days and would love to try his lunch menu. My daughter had ramen noodle soup and I had his daily special (fish on rice, salad, miso soup) and dessert was on the house.
