Read moreSeriously i’m not sure why is the high rating of this restaurant. It’s a scam. Bet it’s the free drink for leaving a comment scheme. It’s very much overpriced with that restaurant setting. You can definitely find something in much better food quality and a more privileged setting than this place in Kyoto.
I ordered the ¥7700 dinner set. The wagyu was decent. Not sure the grading though. It was not remarked. The veg and others were not so impressed, especially when the green onion is with veg scraps that you know it’s a cheap and bad vegetable that they used. They also pre-made the udon and stirred that to your warm pot, so it’s not served hot, which was another disappointment. Dessert was with the standard matcha ice cream scoop.
It could have been better if I were set upstairs with proper tables and chairs than the bar table. It just didn’t work to have a ¥7700 set at a bar table setting. But to be fair, even if it’s the upstairs table setting, it’s still just wooden hard chairs like those from school. Again, you can get something that is with a spacious private room at that price, but not squeezing into that small table with a ridiculous sticky floor.
The only good side was that the server was quite a young lady. Just when you see them making the sukiyaki for you with their jewelled long nails, you might as well wish that could have been the more mature elegant lady who seemed to know better cooking. Given that you are here for...

We had the standard menu, and paired sake. Came to ¥22,000, which is crazy cheap when you come from London! £110 for two people, with paired drinks, where they cook the food for you in the hotpot at the counter!
The starters were great, but it's when they start the hotpot with the wagyu beef that it goes to another level. While you're dipping that in your egg mix and eating it, they add various veg and tofu, plus more wagyu beef in a sweet mirin/sugar/soy sauce. As you dip more of it in your egg mix, the mix just gets better and better!
Then you get fresh made udon noodles added to the leftover sauce in the hotpot, and it's just amazing. It's all finished off with a really righ matcha ice cream, which is the perfect ending.
Really recommend the paired sake. It's only ¥2,000 extra (£10) for 3 different glasses, served at the correct times during the meal, and erved in unique ways! They pair so well. If you haven't tried sake before, or you tried some from a supermarket and didn't get it, this is the perfect way to do it - each one goes so well will the part of the meal you're eating. The sweet one served during the main hotpot? Trust me, it works!
