YOUSAI ~Kimono Store~ — Local services in Kyoto

I adore this kimono shop! I’ve been on an antique kimono hunt while visiting Kyoto and this shop is a must-go if you’re looking for kimono, yukata, furisode and accessories. The prices are super affordable and the selection is great! I picked up x4 beautiful haori from their 1100-1320 yen rack outside the store. I was amazed by the beautiful designs and quality, especially for the price. The shop clerks surprised me with haori himo ties for the jackets that did not already have them, which was so kind! I also bought some obiage and obijime since I needed them for a kimono. They have a great selection of new and vintage items - highly recommended that you stop here if you are looking for specific kimono pieces or accessories. I also received a cute bunny wearing a kimono doll as a present with my purchase. They were very friendly towards me, a foreign woman with tattoos. Mi sono recata in questo negozio in quanto cercavo due kimono completi di accessori da acquistare. Spinta dal leggere le molte recensioni positive mi sono recata qui come prima scelta. Il negozio è molto bello, c’è molta scelta e i kimono sono bellissimi. Tuttavia non è stata per niente un’esperienza positiva come invece mi aspettavo. Avevo le idee chiare su cosa mi serviva. Io avevo già scelto il kimono che c’era su un manichino e che sarebbe costato 23.000yen compresi gli Obi e il Juban. Nel mentre una commessa lo slegava per confezionarlo, una signora anziana aveva già iniziato a farmi i conti con la calcolatrice, al che le dico che avevo bisogno anche di un kimono da uomo, lo prendiamo dall’ attaccapanni, nemmeno il tempo di provarlo e ha di nuovo in mano la calcolatrice dietro il bancone della cassa. La fermo per dirle che mi servono anche i sandali, allora sceglie lei (senza dare alternative e insistendo per la misura palesemente piccola ma che a suo dire in Giappone si usa così….avevo tutto il tallone fuori dalla scarpa…). Senza margine di chiede un’alternativa prende quelle e le mette sul bancone della cassa e inizia di nuovo i conti. Al che mi arrendo. Le commesse piegano tutto, mi presentano il conto prima di 42.000yen e poi rifanno i conti e diventano 61.000yen. Al momento, presa anche dalla fretta della signora, ho pagato senza chiedere nulla né controllare la borsa dove avevano messo il tutto. Appena arrivata in albergo ho guardato e dello Juban nessuna traccia. Ci sono rimasta malissimo in quando avrei dovuto indossare il kimono la mattina successiva ma senza lo Juban era impossibile. Non sono tornata a sindacare perché ero troppo amareggiata, mi sono sentita trattata con una frettolosa superficialità nonostante avessi detto che conoscevo il prodotto e fossi sempre stata cortese e sorridente. Avrei sicuramente acquistato molto altro se mi avesse concesso il tempo di guardarmi attorno. Mi dispiace perché non sono una persona che fa recensioni negative ma questa cosa mi ha fatto star molto male e mi auguro che non ricapiti a nessun altra persona. Per fortuna il giorno dopo ho trovato un negozio in centro a Kyoto dove una signora gentilissima si è prodigata molto per trovare tutto ciò che mi serviva. I cannot recomend this shop enough if you are serious about kimonos. I wanted a specific piece and a person speaking English there assisted me very professionnally. She found exactly what I wanted and the price was so great that I had enough money to buy other things like shoes haori and I got a bit crazy and got an expensive obi. She took her time and never pressured me to buy anything. What I really enjoyed with that shop is that it is big so you do not feel a bit claustrophobic like you might in some others near nishiki market but you should also visit small shops.
