The staff was really nice, the place is clean, with a casual ambience. The lunch set is great value - really good price.
The salad that comes with the lunch set was tasty and had a nice dressing. Unfortunately both me and my Indian boyfriend were both disappointed at how sweet our curry dishes were. He ordered the palak paneer and I ordered the chicken curry. Even though the color of the two dishes was different, the flavor was very similar which is odd because usually palak paneer has a very distinct flavor from chicken curry. I wish the flavors were more unique between the two dishes.
The chai was very milky and creamy but the black tea flavor and masala wasn’t strong enough in my opinion. I think it could be improved by increasing the ratio of tea and spices.
We’re both very familiar with Indian food and realize that there’s some variability with how different chefs interpret dishes, and I got the feeling based on the staff’s response to our feedback that part of the sweetness was due to trying to make the dishes suitable to the Japanese flavor profile, but I do think that it was still generally too sweet and lacked balance.
Overall, I hope the staff takes this feedback kindly, as my intention is only to give some kind advice as a customer. I wish we had the opportunity to try more dishes so that I could give a more holistic review, it is possible that there were many tasty options we missed out on.
There’s a good number of vegetarian options as well.
Thank you again for the meal and wish you all...
Read moreSo we had a change in our itinerary- some of us were tired from all the walking and needed to book foot massages to recover 😂…. SO, our planned dinner reservations fell through and we decided to try and find a place to eat on the fly in our neighborhood … Well, that didn’t work out too good - most restaurants are pretty tiny and we needed vegetarian food so our choices were pretty limited. After trying to get a table at 3 places (we were slightly larger party of 5) we gave in and decided to eat at this restaurant. Apparently, they have about 20 restaurants across Kyoto!! The vegetarian food is one dimensional - we ordered the 2 vegetarian entrees and they tasted the same - with the same sauce and different vegetables. BUT the naan made the meal! The piping hot buttered naan - fluffy and chewy- was so good after walking around in the cold for the last hour being rejected by everyone- it totally made up for the rejections and warmed us up from the inside 🙃. The waiter seemed a little uninterested in his job but the cooks kept talking and keeping an eye on us from the kitchen! The food came fast and we were out of...
Read moreThis restaurant is the epitome of customer service!!! We walked in but couldn’t get seats and were told to come back half an hour later. So we thought we would order the food first so that we wouldn’t have to wait. After half an hour, we returned and due to some miscommunication, our reserved table had been given to other customers. Then, the best thing happened. The owner felt so and that he drove us in his car to another of his restaurants a little further away and asked the same food to be prepared! It doesn’t end there - once we were done, he picked us up and dropped us back to our hotel!!! How good was that. And to top it all off, we had the best garlic naan, chicken tikka and special salad!!! Thank you so much for all...
