Was looking for Unagi places around the area on Google Maps and found this chain with super high reviews across all the outlets. Making a reservation was also relatively easy on Line. Staff was very responsive.

The restaurant interior looks really modern and the staff were really friendly. Service was prompt, and they also gave instructions on how best to enjoy the meal.

The unagi was grilled to perfection but there was quite a lot of fine bones in it. I know it’s normal to have lots of fine bones in eel but I’ve had unagi at other restaurants that doesn’t seem to have as much bones. It was still very tasty though, I just had to chew a lot more to break down the bones. (Personal fear of having it stuck in my esophagus)

At the end of the meal, they do ask you to leave a review which is probably why there were so many 5star reviews but it doesn’t take away from the experience since they don’t force you to do it. It’s definitely still a 5 star experience in my books! Highly recommend for...

Among the best unagi I’ve had—Dotonbori Kurofune Nagahoribashi seems committed to quality. The sanshō wasn’t too strong and the wasabi looked like it was fresh from the riverbed. The man who I assume is the owner is incredibly bubbly and sociable, trying his best to speak to people in their native language, and communicates waits well. The space is clean and fresh with a modern twist on traditional Japanese spaces.

The menu is multilingual with English, Chinese and Korean. It is very simple and straightforward in terms of options and makes decision making a breeze. There were also instructions on how to eat unagi correctly for first timers.

We ordered the Hitsumabushi tokujo unagi set, which I think is the best way to enjoy Dotonbori Kurofune. Prices were quite standard for good unagi. I’d forgive the owner if he wanted to raise prices though—he’s...

DOTONBORI KUROFUNE Nagahoribashi delivers a masterclass in unagi craftsmanship. The eel is grilled to perfection—you can eat it in many different special ways and even pair it with pepper or a house sauce that strikes a rare balance between depth and restraint. The interior feels quietly refined, ideal for solo diners or small groups seeking calm amid Osaka’s bustle. Service is efficient, multilingual, and child-friendly, with thoughtful touches. At ¥3,000–4,000, it’s exceptional value for premium eel. A short walk from Nagahoribashi Station, it’s a gem for those who appreciate culinary precision without the pomp. I’d return in a heartbeat—this place respects both the fish and the diner.
