What an absolute gem in Osaka! Taiyo specializes in udon and gyoza, and we had such a fantastic meal here. 😍
We ordered the Katsu Curry Udon and the seasonal Oroshi Bukkake Udon. My husband has tried 6–7 curry udons across different cities in Japan, and he said without hesitation that this was the BEST one he’s ever had. The broth was rich, comforting, and the katsu perfectly crisp. My Oroshi Bukkake udon was the total opposite — light, refreshing, and gentle on my often times capricious stomach 😅. Both were outstanding in their own way.
But the real stars of the show were the gyoza. Oh my goodness… hands down the best we’ve ever had (and gyoza is one of my favorite foods, so I’ve had a lot 😆). They were big, juicy, and bursting with flavor. We tried the umeshiso gyoza and the salty sauce gyoza, and both were incredible. We loved them so much we couldn’t resist ordering a second umeshiso portion to take out. That says it all!
The staff were friendly and attentive, and the space is small and cozy, which adds to the charm. Yes, you might need to wait to get a seat, but it’s absolutely worth it. Once seated, ordering is super easy through their app.
Thank you, Taiyo, for one of the most memorable meals of our trip. If you’re in Osaka, this spot is a must for udon lovers AND gyoza...
Read moreAbsolutely delicious udon and a true hidden gem in Osaka! I stumbled upon Taiyo while exploring the neighborhood, and it turned out to be one of the best meals of my trip. The udon noodles were perfectly chewy and clearly handmade — you can really taste the care that goes into them. I ordered the beef udon and my friend got the tempura set, and both were flavorful, comforting, and beautifully presented.
The broth was rich but not overpowering, and the ingredients tasted fresh and high quality. The tempura was light and crispy, not greasy at all. The staff were friendly and welcoming, even with the language barrier, and the service was quick and polite.
The restaurant has a cozy, local feel — nothing too fancy, but very clean and inviting. Prices are very reasonable, especially for the quality of food.
If you’re looking for authentic udon in Osaka, I highly recommend Taiyo. I’ll definitely be coming back next time...
Read moreI was staying close by, only a few minutes walk away. Saw this as a restaurant close by so decided to go there.
This place is a hidden gem. Food was great. Service as I say as a tourist knowing very little Japanese language was as good as it could.
Had an English menu. The cook may have been the owner on Thursday 6th June? Who knows. Best food I’ve had in Osaka so far. Udon was flavour filled and also clean. Curry udon set was rich in flavour and clean too. Gyoza, being Asian myself I would say it was very good so not sure what some people say about not having enough flavours? It does not need sauce and the flavour was there so super happy with my meal. I eat a lot so spent on two meals but overall...
