I will say this, the guys at Uoshinhonten are some of the hardest workers ever. Typhoon Trami was bringing rains and winds upon Osaka and 90% of stores were shut down. Not these guys! Not only was this branch open, several other branches of the same shop were open as well. Turns out this is only one of many in the area. Staff were outside, enticing people to come in. There may be a natural disaster, but people still have to eat!
Other than the boisterous staff, what drew me in was the plastic sushi displays with exaggerated toppings. Sushi with salmon roe spilling out over the sides. Nigiri with slabs of fish that were double the length of the rice. I'm always down for good sushi and big portions, and not having a lot of options isn't going to change that. Inside was a typical sushi bar. Chefs preparing anything that customers yelled out in Japanese...which was a bit difficult for us tourists but manageable. Just point at the pictures in the menu and smile.
The fake food outside was an honest representation of the real food inside. The fish really does droop over the rice in nice long pieces. Maybe because of that ratio, it felt like the prices were on the higher end. It sure tasted fresh though. We got seared salmon with roe, mackerel with green onion/ginger, shrimp avocado roll, anago sea eel, and crab roe. It was all delicious but that anago was superb and HUGE.
Service was okay, food was good, prices were high, and these guys defy typhoons. With all that in mind, that makes this place a solid a-ok...
Read more“Great sushi, great service and great atmosphere.” My friend took me to this restaurant and I was thrilled, the serves are big and yes the prices are a little high but as I said the serves are big. The service was fantastic with lots of interaction from the sushi chefs, I cannot fault this place. I am a big eater but after 10 dishes that I shared with my friend and 3 beers I was done. I was very full. I was a bit disappointed when I was writing this and saw the previous reviews, not sure when they went but I can assure that a guy from Australia that enjoys a beer, sushi and friendly people was made very welcome in this great restaurant. Pleas go, you wont be...
Read moreUnfortunately very disappointed today. This young sushi chef wearing glasses really doesn’t mind a foreigner guest. Maybe its good for Japanese but I don’t think it’s a right restaurant for foreigners. Sometimes he just made me feel like he simply ignores us. Maybe good sushi with a reasonable price but he simply made me lose my appetite. I don’t expect a vip service but i hope if you make food which makes people feel happy, you should learn how to communicate with your guests. Your simple English is good enough to communicate with foreigners but you gave up a chance to make your guests feel that they are accepted at your place. Sorry I don’t wanna go back...
