Opera — Restaurant in Osaka

We stumbled upon this place while exploring Osaka. It’s a fairly small/intimate establishment serving a Japanese/Spanish fusion style of tapas, and was some of the best food I had in Japan. The owner does speak some English and was very friendly and helpful, but the menu is entirely in Japanese so I highly suggest taking a picture of the menu with google translate (if you are like me and not the best at reading/translating Japanese characters). We got there when the place opened and were able to sit at the bar and talk with the chef some while he prepared the food. More locals showed up and sat at the bar as well with everyone being very friendly; the chef even translated some for us so we could have conversations with the locals. The restaurant became filled up with all tables and bar seats taken within about 1-2hrs of the restaurant opening but the food and the chefs story are incredible.

Things to note: We (2 people) went shortly after opening to get seats. If you are a larger group the earlier you can get here the better as the few tables they have are 2 person tables. The restaurant probably seats about 10-15 people. The menu is entirely in Japanese, so you may need to use google translate. Try the fries (these are probably the best fries I’ve had...

Fabulous hidden gem. Fantastic food - Spanish style with a joyful Japanese twist. So much love and detail in everything! The chef is cooking in front of you. The ambience is casual yet special and jazzy. We had the beef, the Iberico, the seasonal paella with Japanese seafood as main dish. Don’t go without the little tapas as starters - we tried a variety of them and every single one was delicious. And the crema catalana came in a fresh interpretation as burnt semifredo. WOW. What an evening! Incredibly nice staff and so willing to guide on excellent wines and whiskies along the dinner. We had 2 of ours sons with us - 18 and 12 and both loved it. The best dinner on our Japan trip so far! And the best overall experience that sparked so much joy for the entire family. Priceless. And worth every single yen. Seemingly inconspicuous from the outside, but truly top-notch inside! A unique blend of Spanish and Japanese flavors. The ambiance immediately invites you to sit down and relax.
