I have lived in Japan a long time so fully understand the concept of "last order" 30 minutes before closing time. However... My daughter and I walked into Shake Shack at 9:30, the doors were open and people were lining up at the counter making orders. I stopped to make season's greetings to a co-worker we coincidentally bumped into (he and his family were just walking out). I kept an eye on the line up of people ordering and went up to make my order at perhaps 9:33. So as a result, a young man in his Shake Shack shirt pushed between me and the people ordering to turn me and my 11 year old daughter away, holding his arms in a rude crossed gesture, in a rude tone, "RAST ORDER, RAST ORDER, SORRY, RAST ORDER" ...
I said nothing, simply left in shock. So ... Dear Shake Shack, Do you think that Starbucks trained their staff to push people out the door of their flagship store in Osaka in 1998? No, they decided that they would not follow that outdated model. A 10 pm closing time is plenty of time for your staff to get on a train home. You are a fast food operation, people are not going to be sitting in your restaurant for an hour. There were probably 20 people in your store sitting eating as I walked my very disappointed daughter out, the only ones booted out. Is this the first impression you want to make at your...
Read moreI loved the food! Today is a weekend and also a Sunday right after spring break started, so I expected a long wait. But we didn’t wait long. The food is good! The fries were not that salty and were just the right texture. The patties were moist and tasty and the chocolate milkshake was glorious. My friends from America recommended it and I would definitely come back for more.
One more thing worth a mention was how staff members were helping manage the crowd. Two ladies were making sure that the customers have ordered before “saving” a seat. There was a lady who was seated at a table for four and hadn’t even ordered; she was waiting for her companion. It would have been acceptable if it weren’t for the many other customers already lined up to order. So I was glad that a staff member approached her and politely asked her to order. And another lady with a tray in hand was able to take her rightful place at the said table.
Sometimes, other people can feel entitled and insensitive, and the staff were able to take care of that for the benefit of other customers in a polite manner, which is never an easy...
Read moreShake Shack in JPN has been a good experience. Most of the burgers were cooked well and the meat retained its moisture. The crinkle cut fries were crispy.
I tried the unique menu options like the "Matcha Lemonade" and "Curry Fries." It was a strange combination and wouldn't recommend these. Most of those items can stand alone by themselves, like just Matcha or just Fries.
I have tried their other items like a "Shack Burger" and their original "Crinkle Cut Fries" and those hit the spot.
It's a vending machine/cafeteria style. You have the option of ordering on a tablet (CC only) or you can order at the cash register and afterward you pick up the meal and return to your table.
The atmosphere is of a modern high-end cafeteria with music in the background. A good spot for either a family meal or a date.
Their specialty in Japan is a "Black Sesame Shake." I'd recommend that you give it a shot if you like both black...
