100% Vegan & Gluten-Free Café
Vedge de la Mode is an absolute must-visit for plant-based food lovers! This 100% vegan and gluten-free café offers a peaceful, welcoming atmosphere, complete with relaxing music and the soft sounds of birds in the background.
The highlight of the menu is the Om Rice, a fully vegan version of the Japanese classic, made using a secret method only known to the owner. It comes in three delicious variations: tomato sauce, curry sauce, and classic sauce. In addition, there are vegan pasta and curry options, each served with a fresh salad and soup, making for a hearty and satisfying meal.
The owner is incredibly kind and prefers that guests reserve in advance. Lunch starts at 2 PM, and dinner is from 5 PM, but she understands that foreign visitors may not be able to call in Japanese, so she happily welcomes walk-ins. If you can speak Japanese, she would appreciate a reservation via phone. Online bookings are also available through her Instagram and LINE account—check my images for details.
For those driving, there are two free parking spaces right in front of the restaurant.

Read moreWow, this was easily one of the best meals I’ve ever had. The owner was also so so sweet! I had accidentally come in when the restaurant wasn’t actually open, but the owner had accommodated me anyway (which is unbelievably kind, and especially appreciated since there are very few vegan restaurants in Shizuoka). I ordered the omurice and I was blown away. Every part of the dish (and the sides) were absolutely perfect, and the vegan egg was one of the best I’ve ever had. If I could come here all the time I absolutely would, I hope to come back...
Read moreReally sweet little restaurant. They are usually only open for reservations as the owner operates this by herself. She does not speak English but a friend of hers was there and was very helpful in translating for us (thank you Takami!). The food tastes very home cooked and cozy. The pasta was delicious and I was especially impressed by the vegan omelette, which was so fluffy and light and remarkably close to real egg. So glad I could try this typical Japanese dish even though I’m vegan....
