This is a small and charming sushi restaurant, with an English menu available. When my husband and I went, we were seated immediately and there was just the sushi chef and one other woman working. The restaurant ended up being at full capacity at one point and the one woman was running around lol. That being said, the woman was still timely at taking our order but afterwards the service was on the slower side. But all the food was delicious and fresh (made it worth the wait). We got two set meals and our total came to ¥4700. All in all, a great experience. The staff were so friendly and the chef also poses for pictures (cute) and they speak English, which helps all those non-Japanese speakers, such as myself :)

Surprisingly good monday evening dinner! As many close on monday evening this little gem was open. We were greeted by the lovely owners. Easy menu - we chose the largest one as we were hungry from a day of travelling. Which was even more than we expected :) (not all in the pictures - forgot to take pictures as we just wanted to eat!) As the owners do everything themselves, but with so much friendliness, enthusiasm and grace it takes a bit longer - but is so worth it. Thank you for having us, we really enjoyed the establishment and the food. Our bellies were full and our hearts filled with another day of pure Japanese hospitality.

I don't know why this place has such high reviews... The sushi rice was so messy and did not stick together at all... The chef also kept sneezing... the table seemed sticky and unclean (as did the restaurant generally.) The miso soup was not good. All the reviews mention the staff being very friendly-- I mean, there's an English menu and they aren't rude, but I didn't get a particularly friendly vibe (even though I am fluent in Japanese and usually strike up easy conversations with people in this city.) The fish was also not fresh. The salmon was not bad though. There is so much wasabi in each piece too and not in a "this is just the chefs recommendation" way... It seemed almost rude or at the very least uncaring. If there is literally no where else open and you haven't really had good sushi in Japan, I mean, this won't kill you and I suppose it's better than starving. But there are other sushi places for the same price that if you go early enough you don't need a reservation for (I'll check and edit the review to remember the name later but just Google it.)

We went to the restaurant at about 9pm and it seemed like they were aboto retire for the night, but upon our entrance - all the lights were turned on again and they were happy to serve us. We were really touched by the gesture. On top of that, the whole dining experience was authentic and exquisite - chef eiichi served us the food and told us not to worry about the menu because he serves food from the heart! And we really enjoyed our time there. After the meal, we even took photo with the chef. All the ingredients were super fresh and super value for money. This is not a fancy dining but simple, real, authentic food from the heart.

A small sushi bar run by a friendly chef, and his wife. The sushi is excellent, there is limited choice of drinks (sake, beer and soft drinks). We sat at the bar, there are a couple of private rooms available. Good clean atmosphere. There are 3 sushi platters, so not a big menu to choose from. Not an upscale restaurant, but if you visit Japan for sushi, and you are in Takayama, then visit this place. Cards not accepted. Closes at 9:00 pm.

Great place to have sushi!!.. after the Spring Festival all the restaurants that we went were either full or had no more food, so we were just walking and the chef welcomed us with a great smile!!.. and to our surprise was the best sushi we had in our two week trip around Japan!.. great service, great food and affordable prices!!.. what else can you ask for?
