OUTRAGEOUS. Do not go if you're a foreigner—only go if you have time to waste. I will NEVER go again.
We arrived at 1:30 PM. No one greeted us. No explanation of the ordering process for foreigners (you have to use a kiosk). The place was packed. I would have preferred if someone told us not to enter because it was too full or if there was a timer to inform us of the expected wait time. Instead, we waited 1 hour and 15 minutes standing. Well, we're in Tokyo; waiting is part of the experience, so we accepted it, thinking we were about to have an exceptional moment...
Well, NO.
Order numbers are NEVER called in English after the Japanese announcement.
At 2:45 PM, we finally got a table. NONE of the recipes from the website that interested us were available to order. The choices were limited to about 5 options that didn't match what we had hoped for. As for me, who isn't allowed to eat sweet pancakes, I couldn't have a savory pancake because we were seated 15 minutes too late (even though we took our ticket around 1:30 PM). And after 2:30 PM, it's over. If at least there had been a sign to inform us in English for foreigners, but no. NOTHING. So I watched others eat.
When we were about to leave, we understood that there was a system with your smartphone to continue shopping and be contacted when it's your turn.
I left at 3:15 PM, hungry and absolutely...
Read moreMy Unhappy Pancake experience. I really wish I wasn't writing this bad review as I do love the food at Happy Pancake. But I went here a few days ago and it was a mess.
It was over packed and the staff sadly didn't seem to be able to keep up. One group before us waited over an hour then their order was wrong and had to be remade. They looked like they were troubled the whole time.
The time it took to be seated, order, and get or food was almost 3 hours. We were there 11:30 to 2:30.
Why this happened is first understaffed and then they lost our order. We only realized this after 4 or 5 tables after us got their food. When we reminded them of our drinks halfway through that, it seemed like they didn't notice we were missing.
Luckily a kind woman from one of those tables seated after us went and talked to the staff. It was so sweet of her. She had noticed us being there before her and once she finished her meal and we still had not recieved ours felt so bad for us that she had to say something.
Once we got our meal I was already really upset. I had asked for some syrup and was told I had to pay for that. After all the mistakes that happened they couldn't spare a small bit of that without charging was really the icing on the cake.
That being said I would not recommend going to this location. I've been to another in I believe Shibuya and had a pretty...
Read moreBeen craving these fluffy soufflé pancakes in Japan. We finally had time for a dessert snack from all our shopping. This ‘A Happy Pancake’ in Ikebukuro seems to have changed over the years. This place was hard to find. Google maps direction was making us dizzy. We finally found the place and the sign was in small writing, too. You can take the stairs to the 3rd floor or take the elevator. It was not crowded. Probably because it was hard to find. The place was a decent size. Not much for large groups. Mostly, for a couples. The largest table was for four and they had two tables this size in the back.
They had a good menu size of different pancakes. They also had different coffees, lattes and teas. We chose the plain pancakes and tiramisu pancake. I liked both and was good with black coffee since the pancakes are sweet. My fave was the plain pancakes. This was about $9. So fluffy and light. So neat how they make it. The Tiramisu was good but too much or too rich for me. This was about $11.
I was with two guys and they gobbled both of them up! So I guess it was good! Haha The prices are decent. The staff were helpful and friendly. I would...
