Alchemiste is a refined gem in Tokyo’s Michelin dining scene, offering a dining experience that quietly impresses from the very start. The restaurant’s façade is discreet and understated, with no ostentatious signage—an elegant prelude to the evening. Guests are greeted by a formally dressed host at the door, setting a tone of genuine hospitality and professionalism.
Service throughout the meal is impeccable, ranking amongst the very best in the city—attentive, polished, and unobtrusive. The culinary focus on Jerusalem artichoke is unique, with inventive dishes that truly celebrate this ingredient.
A particular highlight was the main course: a pork dish prepared with remarkable restraint and technical precision. Eschewing unnecessary complexity, the chef presented pork and vegetables in a manner that allowed each element’s natural flavour to shine. It is not often that a meat-based main at a Michelin restaurant is both so memorable and so elegantly simple.
If I were to mention one minor quibble, it would be the amuse-bouche: a candied tomato. While beautifully executed, it was a touch too sweet for my personal preference, particularly as an opening to the meal. Beyond this, every aspect of the experience was thoroughly enjoyable.
In summary, Alchemiste offers exceptional service and accomplished cuisine in an understated setting. A quietly confident and highly recommended addition to Tokyo’s fine...
Read moreJust had to share about the culinary journey I embarked on at Alchimiste! One of the first restaurants I booked for my Japan trip.
The recommendation came from an ex-Tattarang executive, who has been following Chef Kenichi Yamamoto's incredible journey from Paris to Japan.
One of the highlights? Tasting an artichoke grown on their very own farm - just be sure not to eat the raw one, as I was advised! 😉😄 The Jerusalem artichoke espuma was 👌
The magic of Alchimiste lies in Chef Kenichi's mastery of blending Japanese ingredients with French-style cuisine. Each dish, be it the Hokkaido Crab, Nagasaki bream, Iwate beef, or the Miyazaki mango, tasted like it was lovingly crafted from the heart ❤️
To elevate the experience, I opted for the cheese course featuring Japanese cheese and blue goat cheese. Makiko-san shared that the Japanese cheese came from a small producer. Creamy, delightful, and delicious!
Every bite was a celebration, leaving me feeling incredibly happy and grateful.
A huge shout-out to Makiko-san and Chef Kenichi for their warm hospitality. Despite being miles away from home, they made me feel like I was...

The food was really good for the most part. There were a couple of the dishes that I didn't like, such as the ikura fennel and caramelized onion eel. Other than those ones, everything was really good with amazing presentation! Service was great as well and what you would expect of Japanese hospitality. They even gave us a dessert gift for our honeymoon and took an instant photo of our party ☺️
I'm not sure if the staff can speak English, but we got the translations of the food as we went with another Japanese couple. But I think foreigners who come may have trouble understanding the descriptions...
