While wandering through the charming streets of Asakusa, I stumbled upon Asakusa Chaya Tabanenoshi, a stylish little café just a few blocks from Sensoji Temple. I had heard whispers about their matcha desserts, so I decided to give it a try—and I’m so glad I did.
The shop has a clean, modern look with warm wooden accents and minimal seating, which adds to its cozy atmosphere. It’s definitely designed more for takeaway, but even standing outside with my dessert felt like a treat. I ordered their signature Kakegawa Matcha Crème Brûlée Crepe, and it was nothing short of amazing. The crepe itself had a chewy texture, wrapped around a rich custard cream and a scoop of premium matcha ice cream. The brûléed sugar layer on top added a perfect crunch, and the edible gold leaf was a classy touch that made it feel indulgent. It looked beautiful and tasted even better—creamy, earthy, and not overly sweet.
I also tried the matcha tiramisu, which was equally impressive. Served in a cup and topped with a vibrant layer of powdered matcha, it was smooth, flavorful, and well-balanced.
The service was polite and quick, and although there was a small line, I didn’t wait long. Prices are fair for the quality—around ¥900 to ¥1,200 depending on the item.
If you're a matcha fan or just in the mood for a high-quality dessert, Asakusa Chaya Tabanenoshi is a must-visit. It’s a modern take on traditional flavors done right, and I’ll definitely return next time...
Read moreVisited this crepe place, which is located near the touristy Sensō-ji temple, during non-busy hours. Overall, this is mediocre at best and definitely not worth the hype on social media at all.
Food is somewhat presentable to be IG worthy but has too much whipped cream and is overly sweet in my opinion.
Service is biased towards locals and you can tell that they cannot be bothered to provide the same good service to foreigners. The other low star reviews are further proof of the poor service.
The four young lady employees are working quietly in their own space without much interaction and the tension in the air is palpable, creating a not so friendly atmosphere to dine in.
At a 990 yen price point, this is somewhat of a tourist trap and you will be better to find crepes of greater value at...
Read moreI always couldn’t understand why people complain about poor staff service. Today I understood why and how it could led to my happy dessert feeling unappetising. The staff looked like they hated work. If they do, they shdnt work. Also crepes isn’t cheap tbh, if not for the tourist, where will their pay come from? Not asking for much but to be polite. I was polite to the food handler but she behaved really poorly and made me feel I shouldn’t be there. I won’t recommend tourist to come here. If they hate tourist so much, they should just service locals. The crepes is alright, nothing too much to look forward to. The attitude just makes it worse. Period. Only thing worthy of visiting is for Instagram which then again not really worth it...
