I've had multiple delightful dining experiences at Ashoka and I can't recommend it highly enough! Even though I have been frequenting this place for the last 15 years, every time I visit Tokyo, each visit is a delight, a home away from home. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly by the staff and immediately made to feel at home. The atmosphere is a perfect blend of elegance and comfort—beautifully designed with just the right amount of lighting and cozy touches, making it perfect for both a casual dinner or a special occasion.
Now, onto the food—absolutely incredible! Every dish was a masterpiece, bursting with flavor and made with the freshest ingredients. The menu is diverse, offering something for everyone, and each dish is crafted with such attention to detail. This time I had the Lamb Rogan Josh, Chicken Curry, Dal, Tandoori Chicken, Fish Tikka, Mixed Vegetable with Rasam Soup and it was beyond delicious—perfectly seasoned, perfectly cooked, and beautifully presented. Every bite was a treat for the senses.
The service was impeccable as well. My server was very friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable, offering great recommendations without being intrusive. At the same time, he took care of my dietary restrictions and made awesome suggestions. The owner Vermaji is a gem of a person and a wonderful host. The team clearly takes pride in their work, and it really shows in the overall experience.
All in all, Ashoka, delivers an exceptional combination of superb food, fantastic service, and a stunning ambiance. I will definitely be back the next time I'm in Tokyo and recommend it to anyone looking for a top-notch dining...

We recently had the pleasure of dining at Ashoka Indian Restaurant in Shinjuku, and it was nothing short of amazing. From the moment we stepped in, we felt the warmth and hospitality that reminded us of home. Owned by the gracious Mr. Vijendra Verma, Ashoka is more than just a restaurant—it’s a haven for those craving authentic Indian cuisine in Japan.
We were welcomed with genuine smiles and prompt service, especially by Tariq Hussain, whose attentive and friendly demeanor made our experience even more memorable. A wonderful lady on the service team (whose name we unfortunately missed) also went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect.
Now, the food—absolutely divine! We ordered a selection of our favorites: • Vegetable Biryani – fragrant, flavorful, and perfectly spiced • Pakora – crispy and satisfying, just like we get back home • Egg Curry – rich, hearty, and full of traditional flavor • Naan – soft, warm, and fresh out of the tandoor • Tandoori Chicken – tender, smoky, and expertly marinated
Every bite was a nostalgic journey to India. It’s clear that the chefs take pride in preserving the true essence of Indian flavors.
If you’re in Tokyo and longing for real Indian food with soul, Ashoka is the place to go. Thank you, Mr. Verma, Tariq, and the entire team for such a delightful evening. We’ll definitely be...
Read moreA great dinner at Ashoka Restaurant in Tokyo! After eating our way through the city, my family and I were pleasantly surprised to stumble upon Ashoka for a cozy dinner. We needed a little break from all of the great Japanese food and a night of delicious Indian cuisine hit the right spot. The place is a bit smaller, which for us was preferred since it made the place feel more intimate. This paired well with the homemade-style dishes that we ordered. We went with the standard favorites like butter chicken, samosas, biriyani, and a few other vegetarian and meat dishes that the staff recommended which were all excellent. The mango lassi was delicious, a little sweet for my taste but really no complaints.
The staff was attentive and the owner even stopped by to check on our table. We were surprised to hear that this restaurant took its origins from the Ashoka in the Taj Hotel in India. Pretty cool to find this all the way in Tokyo. Overall, loved the experience here and wishing them all the best. If I get a chance to visit Tokyo again,...
