Galant Coffe Shop is located very close to Ueno Station on the second floor, above Seven Eleven. Simply take the stairs or the elevator and go up. I happened to arrive there at the lunch peak hour, but was lucky enough to get a table quite soon. Please consider that there is a time limit for each sitting (I think it was about 90 minutes on the weekends) - this way, they are trying to keep the customer flow running. The interior of Galant was really nice and I especially enjoyed the seats by the windows watching the trains passing by. Keep in mind, that smoking is permitted here. I had the Hayashi Rice as the main dish which was ok, but I liked the Tea Jelly for desert! Compared to other retro coffee shops, this one might be a bit on the pricier side, but it is worth visiting...

Visited at 8:30 on a weekday morning and although a steady stream of customers filed in there wasn't too much cigarette smoke in the air. I'm not a smoker but I wasn't bothered by smoke. Maybe the large size of the room diluted it
My blend coffee was bland and the pizza toast was a little charred but the seats were comfortable and spacious.
