We went to Coffee Tengoku during an off-season and off peak-time, so there was no line. Depending on the time and season, there could be a line here. The inside is quite small too, maybe around 10 plus seating total. Only two ladies working, but very efficient.
As most Japanese restaurants and eateries, they had a basket at each table where you can put your bags, jackets, etc. so they stay clean while you dine. The word “Tengoku” means heaven, so their coffee shop is called “Coffee Heaven.”
Their menu is not big, mainly their famous Hot Cakes, and hot dogs. They do have several different kinds of drinks, like coffee, tea, soft drinks, juice, and beer. They also have a couple of desserts too. We were there for their popular hot cakes. We ordered Vienna Coffee to go with the hot cake.
Their famous hot cakes were very fluffy looking, only two stacked on top, but had a nice height to them. Each hot cake is made to order, from mixing of the dry ingredients to cooking them. With the quality and its natural sweetness, you really don’t need much syrup. Hot Cakes are were made perfect and so satisfying! I can see why their hot cakes are so popular!
We also ordered Hot Chili Dog. They use their extra long hot dog, wildly sticking out of the bun. It is topped with spicy ground beef with chili sauce. The hot dog had that perfect crunch when you but into it. It was not that spicy, but had a nice kick to it. Packed with flavor, we really enjoyed the hot dog.
We had a really nice, relaxing lunch here. The hot cakes were as good as I wanted them to be, and the addition of the hot dog was great. I had the opportunity to speak with the owner for a minute, and she was so lovely, welcoming, and friendly. Definitely the kind of place you want to have in your own...
Read moreI recently stumbled upon a hidden gem of a coffee shop with a cute storefront design that caught my attention. The coffee shop is extremely small and can barely fit 10 people inside. Although they do not have espresso, their café latte tasted amazing. While enjoying my café latte, I noticed other customers ordering pancakes and decided to try them as well. The pancakes were delicious and had the store logo on top with a small butter to add to the flavor. The environment of the coffee shop was very relaxing and everyone was quietly enjoying their coffee and pancakes. Overall, I had a great experience at this coffee shop and would highly recommend it to anyone who loves a cozy and intimate atmosphere for their coffee breaks. Although small in size, the quality of the coffee and food definitely...
Read moreDelicious pancakes and coffee! Perfect on a rainy day or Any day you feel like having something light and delicious. The pancakes are nice and tender with a hint of sweetness in the batter. Apparently, she only mixes the batter upon service, that’s why her pancake has such a nice texture. Paired with the salty butter and maple syrup, it’s a combination of the heaven bliss. And for a black coffee, it is very good and even a person like me who usually takes sweet drinks could finish the cup straight up which is amazing! Great place to be if you are ever in Asakusa! Be prepared to queue...
