The first really disappointing experience in Japan. This hotel is trying its best but can not provide you with the most essential; sleep. The facilities are old, some rooms (or even whole floors in the front building) smell, the furniture is scratched, the minifridges need to be switched off at night or their noise will drive you crazy. And that is the main issue in this hotel: noise! You will hear when other guests use their toilets and bathrooms to shower or take baths. The old pipes will not let you sleep when another guest on the floor above you decides to take his bath towards 11 PM. I even had the luck to witness the rare fact that there apparently exist humans who prefer to have their baths at 3 AM! Nothing cures you from the idea of picking a cheap hotel like waking up to pipes screaming from boiling water and hearing the constant sound of a filling bathtub at 3 o'clock in the morning. I am not sure how other guests could rate this hotel as still not being loud. I lost 2 days of sleep and this is something you want to avoid on vacations. The sad part is that there is nothing you can do; the staff is doing their best, always friendly, looking tidy and showing the usual japanese courtesy. What should they do about such a problem? Switching rooms would not help and they can not rebuild the whole building to make the rooms soundproof. The staff is not to blame but I can not give a hotel with such a big flaw anything else than a 1/5 if it fails to provide you with the most essential; undisturbed sleep. I visited 3 other hotels in Japan over the course of the past two weeks but this hotel loses on all levels in comparison. It is not up to par with japanese standards and I recommend to pay a little bit more for safe sleep and the true japanese experience of todays modern hotels...
Read moreI just spent 5 nights in a single room at their main building. I love the location and how it is close to everything in Asakusa. The room was soundproofed so I didn't get the street noise. The housekeeping was done by lovely elderly ladies who leave a bag of neatly folded towels and pyjamas at your door if you have a 'do not disturb' sign out. ||||I didn't sleep very well as the duvet was a little dirty. They use a main duvet and line it with a bedsheet on its underside which means they don't wash the duvet and change only the sheet during room service. I found dust and hairs on the duvet so I requested for extra sheets to put between myself and the duvet. The management should seriously reconsider their bedding, especially for guests who are allergic/sensitive to dust.||||The front desk staff were helpful enough. Oddly, they refused my request to make a table reservation for a restaurant. I approached 2 staff members and they were adamant about not providing this service to guests. Finally, after much persuasion, I managed to get a lady to very reluctantly make a call to the restaurant. It was a very strange policy.||||I wish to thank a front desk staff - a young, bespectacled man- who assisted me in booking a taxi on 28 Jan, around 10:45pm and very very kindly took the trouble to take my luggage out in the pouring rain for the taxi. ||||Overall, my one and only complaint is the bedding. Otherwise, I had a good experience and the location...
