A lovely little street restaurant relatively near a lovely little Ryoken. When I went they served (I think fresh?) Unagi on rice with miso soup for ¥2,800. It was quite good. Their menu is in a few languages, including English, which was helpful. Plays lovely Japanese instramental music and has a quaint Japanese aesthetic. The staff was good, but I had to drop to four stars for two reasons. First, while they have examples of their corner size on display (half vs whole) and their weight, they do not make effort to point them out, and their labels are only in Japanese. I can read katakana and know what ハールセイズ means, but if I had not I would have had to guess. I had to point them out to other foreign diners, at which point the staff thanked me and showed them, but it would be good to point them out explicitly. Second, the English menu does not show English or pictures when asked if you want either soup or miso soup with your meal. Third, when I asked if they had wifi, they told me ちょっとまで and gave me a menu, but told me nothing else. After I ordered from the menu they gave me the wifi password, which is perfectly reasonable, but they did not even confirm they had wifi until after I ordered. I don't demand they be proficient in English, but it would be nice if they had a piece of paper with some FAQs in English (and perhaps Mandarin and Korean) that they can hand people (e.g. that they offer wifi but you need to order first) so they can inform customers without needing proficiency. Third, they have a QR code on the table, but it is for a survey, not the menu. A different foreign couple came in and immediately tried to scan the QR code for the menu. Slightly better labeling of the QR code (e.g. "Survey: English notation") would help clear up the confusion, and maybe a sign that says in a few languages "Please be seated; a waiter will bring the menu to you." I give these minor critiques because I think they are easily solveable and would make a good dining experience great, but overall I am quite satisfied and...
Read moreCame across this gem while strolling the streets of Asakusa on New Year’s Eve. They specialize in wagyu beef, grilled eel, and beef tongue and the food was amazing! We all ordered the wagyu beef and grill eel set - I ordered the half-size and immediately regretted not getting the full order after my first bite of the wagyu! Soooo tender and sooo tasty! The same for the eel! I couldn’t believe how both just melted in my mouth. I could have easily finished a full order! Highly, highly recommend - great service in a low key and peaceful ambiance. With so many food options in this area, I am so grateful that we took a chance in this place. Don’t let their limited options fool you! Great value for high quality food - we will definitely...
Read moreI was looking for a traditional Japanese-style breakfast near Senso-ji and stumbled upon this amazing restaurant! The menu is in Japanese with photos, but there’s also an English-translated version available on an iPad at the table, making it easy to browse and order. We ordered the half-size grilled eel rice and the half-size wagyu beef rice. Both included soup and a small plate of pickled vegetables.
Everything was cooked to perfection—the eel was flavorful and delicious even without the heavy sauce often used in the US, and the wagyu quite literally melted in my mouth.
The seating was spacious, clean, and comfortable, and the service was excellent. A wonderful find near the temple and highly...
