Love Asakusa as a location. It's quiet and safe at night for a female solo traveller and the hotel is so close to konbini stores, Donki, Sensoji temple, and stations with major lines to Narita and other major cities of Tokyo.
With how convenient it is as a base in Tokyo, I really wish that the hotel maintain its rooms better. Beyond the fact that they do not clean the room everyday other than changing towels and clearing the trash bin (which I can live with as a budget traveller), the rooms are unfortunately very dusty. Literally saw a puff of dust rise as I sat down on the bed to rest for the night after a long day of travelling. To add on to the ordeal I had to wipe down the tiny table at the corner to eat breakfast the next morning since it looks like no one has cleaned it as it's covered in a layer of dust too.
The worse offender of it all is the toilet shower cubical.
The shower cubical in the two different rooms that I've stayed in smelled of sewage when you first enter them. I've had to turn the shower on before I bathed in hopes to dampen the smell because of how strong it is once you open the glass door. The ventilation shaft above the shower is filled with clumped dust and looks like it has obviously not been cleaned for months (if not years). If you unfortunately looked down you can see green mould on the silicone edges of the door. In one of the rooms I stayed in the silicone was semi-peeled off from the door and I was surprised that it was left unrepaired. There's also mould growing between the square ridges of the shower floor which makes one feel really icky about everything. (Another reviewer here have also commented on the mould and provided pictures. It's honestly pretty bad.)
The only consoling thing about the whole ordeal is honestly how friendly and efficient the front desk is when I requested to replace my pillows and kettle when I discovered black dust and mould on them. Kudos to them.
This honestly would be a 5/5 recommendation for the price of the hotel if only there's more consideration towards cleanliness of the rooms. It's disappointing considering that this hotel is newly renovated but it seems like there isn't any maintenance or proper cleaning done to ensure that the facilities are not rapidly...
Read moreChanced upon this hotel looking for a reasonable place to stay for a impromptu golden week trip. All other hotels during golden week were fully booked or at super peak rates! It was one of the few choices left that fit our needs that wasn’t too overpriced at that time.||The location of the hotel makes it a gem, a few steps away from all the Asakusa action and a short walk from Tawaramachi station, and a relatively easy 10 min walk to Asakusa station. It was very convenient to find a nearby place to eat, with konbinis spread around too. The good thing around Asakusa is there’s a lot of covered street walks, good for rainy or sunny days.||The twin room was slightly smaller than other hotels we’ve tried in Japan, not too much space to open two large suitcases, no closets just hangers, but most people will get the hang of it. The bed, small pillows, and comforters were just okay. There is space under the bed to use as storage, just don’t forget to check under before you leave. The small ref tumbles a bit when opening. I do think the lighting was good. Air conditioning worked right. Cleanliness was fine. The wall images of Tokyo landmarks along the corridor and the bathroom door was either a nice touch or slightly tacky depending how you look at it, but that’s just me nitpicking. ||The bathroom was smaller than usual too compared to other Japan hotels we’ve tried, for average Asians like us it wasn’t much of a problem, though I’d imagine Westerners might find it a bit more cramped. Like most Japanese hotels, the shower and water pressure was very good!||We found the front desk staff always pleasant, smiling, and willing to help. When I booked the hotel on their website it had a slight glitch after payment, I called the hotel to sort it out, the staff members took the time to help.||It’s a small but very straightforward hotel, good if you’re just in and out of your room for most of the day and want an easy accessible place with lots of options to do within walking distance. We’d consider...
Read moreThe hotel is conveniently located near the shopping district of Asakusa, where the ROX malls are situated. We stayed at the hotel for four nights and appreciated the convenience of the Ginza Line, which is approximately a five-minute walk from Tawaramachi Station. This made it easy for us to travel to other areas in Tokyo, such as Ginza (for shopping), Ueno (for transit to the Keisei Skyliner), and Shibuya (for more shopping).||||The hotel is also near the trendier part of Asakusa, where Asakusa ROX and Don Quijote are located. Eateries such as McDonald's, Hoshino Coffee, and Ichiran Ramen are within walking distance, and it is about a 5-7 minute walk to Sensoji Temple, one of the most popular temples in Japan. Having all these attractions nearby allowed us to visit multiple times, especially Don Quijote, where we spent most of our evenings after the other stores closed. Additionally, it is only two stations away from the tallest structure in Japan, the Tokyo Skytree, which allowed us to book the last possible time slot for the observatory without worrying about public transportation back to the hotel late in the evening.||||In terms of cleanliness, the room appeared fine, but there was a murky smell when we first entered. This odor did not dissipate until the third night, indicating that the room was not properly cleaned before our arrival. The room is considered spacious by Japanese hotel standards, and there is space for us to store our luggage under the beds, which is a plus.||||Overall, I would definitely recommend staying at this hotel, given the convenience it offers and the overall service provided to us...
