Unbelievable Prices in Japan 2024...

This store bribes customers for reviews. They hand out a flyer advertising a free product if shown a review. They don't explicitly mention a five star review being required, though the implication is clear. Scan through the reviews for this store; a disproportionate amount of them are left by accounts that give only a rating without any comment on food quality (or any comment at all). The review has to be presented before ordering, so any review left by customers for the purpose of obtaining the free product is dishonest, except in the case of repeat customers. I mention this so future customers will have context on why this store has the rating it does. Temper your expectations, the rating has been artificially inflated. Underhanded business practices aside, this review's rating will be scored purely based on the quality of the food and ordering experience. I had the egg salad fried sandwich. There's a generous amount of filling, and quite good tasting too. I enjoyed the bread much more than the filling though, but unfortunately there was only a thin slice of bread that's been hollowed out. Bread to filling ratio was much too skewed towards the filling. Overall it's a decent sandwich, though very underwhelming given the store rating. Queue took 45 min at 2pm. Lots of waiting in the sun. Price per sandwich is 750 yen. Personally I don't think it's worth the wait.

MAR 2024 Visited when they just opened and there was already a queue. It took about 10 minutes before it was my turn to order. The menu was extensive with about 30 varieties of deep fried sandwich to choose from. They also have some fruit and cream sandwiches displayed in the fridge cabinet. I had the yakisoba and the ganache matcha fried sandwich, as well as 'matcha cream three' sandwich. The yakisoba has a fried egg with a runny yolk and some pickled red ginger which pairs well to cut through the greasiness. The ganache matcha was filled with a mild matcha cream, covered with plenty of strong matcha powder and topped with sweet milk chocolate ganache cubes. Both were tasty and the fried bread was enjoyable from the crispiness but also heavy on the stomach due to the greasiness. As for the 'matcha cream three' sandwich, the ratio of bread to cream was amazing. The cream has a decent matcha flavor, not too sweet. Even after 3 hours it wasn't fully defrosted in the middle so it was like eating ice cream.

So sadly this is a place absolutely over hyped by Instagram etc. It's not bad, but it's also nothing special either. The real reason to rank it so low is it's near impossible to eat. If you do decide to go here I've attached a picture of something you need to buy at a pharmacy before going there. I had the curry one and seasonal grape one. At the end of the day they are impossible to eat/extremely messy and in the case of the curry one doesn't taste any better (or any worse in all fairness) than a regular fried Curry Pan, though Japanese bakers figured out decades ago that the format of a regular Curry Pan is the ultimate way to eat it so it doesn't end up all over your shirt and shorts(ask me how I know lol). In the end you'll end up eating just the top first (very messily) and then end up with some relatively bland bread to eat after. Overall it's pretty to look at but taste is nothing special and difficulty to actually eat is high. Also there are ZERO seats or tables, so you need to walk across the street to a park that has 1 or 2 picnic tables that are always full of people, and a bunch of concrete pillars that you can sit on. A warning is the MOMENT you sit down a million not afraid of people pigeons will then literally jump on you for your sandwich. Just go to a regular Japanese bakery and you'll be MUCH happier in the end. My wife is Japanese and we are in Tokyo often and she said the exact same thing regarding our experience. Also a warning they have lots of 5 star "bought" reviews because they give you a free sandwich if you do a google review and show them.

Controversial opinion. Hear me out. 3.5 out of 5 stars. Like many reviews here, I was intrigued after watching a few Youtubers rave about this place. Prices have gone up since this shop has gone viral. Sure, it is in upscale Ginza and rental is probably high. But still.... 750¥ for a slice of fried bread is rather steep to me. The basic whipped cream slice is still 100¥ but only limited to 1 slice. Any subsequent slice of that would cost you 300¥ each. The toast was fried very well. It does have an oily aftertaste (duh, it's fried) but it's bearable. My issue lies with the toppings. The amount of toppings given is generous. So generous that for the first 10 bites or so, you will ONLY be eating the toppings. It is virtually impossible to have the topping and the toast in the same mouthful. I'm not sure how you would feel about eating egg salad (as it is) for 10 straight bites. Eating this also makes for a very messy endeavour so do be warned. The whipped cream also gets sweet really fast when you eat it on its own (which is unavoidable for aforementioned reasons). Please prepare some water. Service was excellent. The staff member provided us umbrellas while we were queuing. Overall, I personally would not come again as 750¥ can get me a nice bowl of ramen/udon. Would reconsider if the price was reduced back to its pre-viral days.

The deep fried bread is amazing. We got the regular cream flavour and the blueberry flavour. The blueberry was delicious, it was refreshing with each bit but be careful as they may roll off the sandwich. The regular cream one that they’re famous for as they’re super cheap was also good. Personally I found after a few bites it was a little too much, but I’d still highly recommend for the price. In terms of service, the cashier was unpleasant (worked during 10/22 around 2pm). We asked for the most popular items, and he looked so disinterested and pointed at 2 random flavours beside each other. We ended up choosing something entirely different from what was recommended (blueberry). They also offer a free fried sandwich if you make a review on Google or TripAdvisor. I rated both, however the guy seemed reluctant on giving me 2 free fried sandwiches (which was fine) but he agreed to do it. When was received our order, we didn’t get any free fried sandwich and only got our regular order. We waited an additional 10 minutes to ask him, and he seemed like he didn’t want to give it to us even though he agreed to earlier. In the end we got 1 cream sandwich free, albeit with a lot of attitude. If they didn’t want to give out the free sandwich, please don’t hand out the paper to every customer asking to rate for a free sandwich.
