Delicious! I passed this restaurant multiple times walking to the kinshicho JR station while on vacation (which is less than a 5 minute walk). Our last night we decided to try it out because we were so tired from walking all over Japan. I'm glad we did!
The servers and cooks were very helpful. No English on the menu but there were pictures on the menu which were very helpful for us Americans. The good ol point and order technique worked well. My dad got the 400g ribeye, mom got 300g ribeye, and I had the 400g sirloin. We were all able to order our preferred cooking temp which the grill master nailed. Corn, onion, garlic chips, along with a buttery topping all come standard with each steak. We also ordered 2 orders of side salad and rice. There's condiments such as mustard and a light steak sauce which was pretty tasty. Not completely overwhelming like A1.
Service was wicked fast as well. You can see your steaks cut and weighed right in front of you while watchig the kitchen work as well. Dinner and a show!
Prices were very reasonable. The steaks we ordered ranged from 2100-3100 based on the weight. Comparable to any steak house I've been to.
Only word of caution is that like many other Japanese restaraunts it is standing room only. But the spots are very comfortably spaced so you don't feel crammed at all. Also, don't mistake the steak sauce carafe for water! Haha.
Overall very tasty, quick, well priced dinner. If you're looking for a very hearty, American style steak with little Japanese...
Read moreI'll start by saying that I'm by no means a steak connossieur. I had 325g of the aged wagyu beef, cooked rare, with a side of garlic rice. The wagyu is JPY10 per gram. The steak was served with onions and corn. You eat standing up.
The steak is served on a heated iron griddle/plate, which continues cooking the meat. Since the steak was placed on the onions and corn, it cooked unevenly. When I was eating the last bites, some were still rare, and others were now medium.
As for the meat itself, the wagyu is a marketing trick, do not get it. The flavor was good, but not great, but the steak was not particularly tender, and it was surprisingly sinewy. I had significant difficulty cutting the steak at some points.
It's topped with fried garlic chips and some kind of sweetened butter. The butter tasted almost like it had coffee in it, but I can't be sure. In my opinion it did not suit the steak's flavors, and I only ate a little.
They offer two sauces, one is sweet and the other is some kind of soy sauce au jus mixture. They recommend the sweet sauce, but I preferred the other.
For over JPY3500, this meal was quite overpriced. I would have been happy with this if it were around JPY2700 I think. I might eat there again, but I definitely will not...
Read moreBeef steaks certainly aren't the most popular way of consuming beef in Japan, people mostly prefer BBQ, and more likely than not, would come with a big price tag. Ikinari Steak is where you can find affordable Japanese Steak, especially for those simply would like to enjoy chunk of meat, alcohol, instant gratification and nothing else. There are limited choice for side orders and no other meat available. One of the highlights here is that you will be standing along the way, not uncommon for Sushi and Ramen restaurants in Japan. After selecting the portion and type of steak of your choice, chef will cut and weigh you steak and decide the price (6~10 yen/gram depending on which type of steak). Probably not the best steak in the world, still, they are nice and enjoyable. In case you are a big fan of theirs, there's a beef mileage card to earn extra rewards for certain amount of steak eaten, how...
