Excellent izakaya specializing in Kyushu style dining (motsunabe) with private rooms!
BOOKING: Reservations are easy to make online, either through Google or their official website. For a party of 5 we were able to secure a reservation a couple weeks out and got a private room.
ARRIVING: Located in FUNDES building, go up to the 8th Floor where you step directly into the restaurant; we were greeted immediately and ushered into our private room, take off your shoes and settle into the room! When visiting in Dec 2023 we had a tatami room with table and an area for your legs so you can sit on the ledge of the tatami, very comfortable.
ORDERING / SERVICE: We have a button to call for a server when ready to order the next round, and the people who came to our room were always polite and efficient and friendly! We only knew basic Japanese but felt very taken care of the whole visit.
FOOD / DRINKS: The specialty here you must get is the MOTSUNABE, the intestines hot pot, which is served in a very stylish pot on a hot flame with lots of veggies and tofu. Once the pot is brought to your table, you need it to get to boil and soften the cabbage (takes about 20 mins) before you dig in! The broth is rich as is the beef intestines, and the veggies are really flavorful too.
You can also enjoy the SEAFOOD or SASHIMI platters (the seafood is flown in from Kyushu!); we enjoyed the FUGU TEMPURA (fried pufferfish) which were hot and also very flavorful and soft (surprising if you've had raw, crunchy, light fugu!), and the CORN TEMPURA was a very sweet, crunchy flavor! We got two of those. The CHICKEN KARAAGE was delicious and also very hot and flavorful.
As for drinks, there's an extensive menu! Cold draft beers taste so good with the MOTSUNABE though :) but of course the big menu of LEMON SOURS, or different types of HIGHBALL drinks, are great for your dinner chat!
VIBE: It's great for a get-together and chat. The private rooms are next to each other so you can hear other people having a good time and it's just generally a good time for everyone in the restaurant! Laughs to be had and a great place to just chill and hang out with excellent food and drinks.
SUMMARY: Wonderful. This place is also halal for those who observe, which opens up delicious Kyushu dining for more patrons to visit! We have loved each time we've come here (as a party of 2, as a party of 5) and the great food will keep us...

I had the pleasure of dining at Issho Ueno (Halal) restaurant in Tokyo, Japan, and I must say it was a genuinely inspiring experience. This restaurant not only offers delicious and authentic Japanese cuisine, but it also caters to the needs of Muslim diners by providing halal-friendly food.
One of the standout dishes I tried was the Kobe Beef, which surpassed all expectations. The beef steak was cooked to perfection, tender and flavorful, leaving me craving for more.
What impressed me even more was the location of the restaurant. Situated next to the JR station in Ueno, Tokyo, it was incredibly convenient to reach. The surrounding area is a treasure trove of halal food options, providing a vibrant and diverse culinary experience.
Overall, I highly recommend Issho Ueno (Halal) to anyone visiting Tokyo looking for a halal-friendly dining experience. The combination of mouthwatering cuisine, a convenient location, and a welcoming atmosphere make it a must-visit destination. Whether you're a local or a traveller, this restaurant is a testament to the inclusivity and diversity that Japan has to offer.

Read moreMuslim traveller will appreciate this restaurant a lot. It has authentic Japanese dishes while only using Halal-based ingredients and meat, Insya Allah.
I came in the evening during Ramadhan, it was also the time when locals had their dinner and i came without a reservation. The place was super packed, however the staff asked me to wait a few minutes while making an effort to clear a back table full of laptops (guess they are doing some work) to accomodate me as they are fully aware that was my first meal of the day. The meal was perfect, the meat was grilled to perfection and vegetables are as fresh as it could be. Surprisingly, while i was waiting for my food, they actually serve me Dates since it is Ramadhan tears tears
Please understand what constitutes Halal in Tokyo. Although it serves halal meals, it does serve variety of liquors, so don’t be suprised when u are confronted with large bottles of alcohols once u entered the premis.
Service wise is what u would expect of Japan....
