My girlfriend and I were planning a trip to Tokyo this fall and we wanted to learn more about Sake, even though we had been drinking Sake for years, we did not know much about the different types nor did we understand how it was produced. True novices! I searched for a Sake Class in Tokyo and there seemed to be a lot of almost 'cookie cutter' style classes and Sake tasting tours of bars and restaurants. However, I did not give up searching for something more specialized and personal online and finally happened upon Jiji's Sake School in Tokyo. And what a wonderful find this was for us! Jiji is an amazing Sake teacher and explained the background of Sake, how it is made and how to tell a good Sake from an average Sake, in a way that was super easy to follow and understand. Most importantly she described how Sake works with so well with many types of foods, whether Japanese Cuisine or Western Cuisines or even Desserts for certain Sakes and that Sake can be drank hot or chilled.
We chose to have a private class, but it would also be nice in a group of 4 to 8 people too. Following Jiji's Sake Class, my girlfriend and I were having a great time taking Sake Tastings as a selection with our food in some of the better Japanese restaurants we found as we travelled through both Tokyo and Kyoto.
