Kakurenbo — Restaurant in Tokyo

I discovered this neighborhood izakaya on our way to Ueno park very randomly. We have ordered two set meals , one chicken karage and one with pork miso soup. The rice was flavorful and the miso soup had a mellow calmness and a good number of vegetables. The sides were quite interesting and added a nice kick to the miso soup - pickled mushrooms, citrus peel like pickle in some intense sauce, flavored noodles, pickled radishes (presumed) , we were satisfied and felt refreshed. It seemed like a place locals come for lunch, we have seen 2-3 office going men finish lunch while we ate. We love to try less touristy , more local places and are content with this find. I would love to try the typical izakaya style yakitori if we have time next time.. the chef was friendly and we didn't have any problem with...

Great izakaya off the beaten path. The food was awesome, each dish we ordered, and the appetizers were very flavorful and well prepared.

It is a bit pricy but the quality of what you get, both drinks and food, make it worthwhile.
