I’m usually not a big fan of Udon, but this turned out to be one of my favorite meals in Japan! The service is amazing even before you step into the restaurant. We arrived around 12 PM, right before the lunch rush, on a Sunday. We waited for only 15 minutes outside and during that time, one of the servers greeted us and provided us in English menu. She took our orders and by the time we were seated, the food arrived within five minutes. During our meal, the owner, who was so warm and welcoming, often checked in on us and made sure we had everything we needed. I ordered the cold noodles while my husband ordered the hot. We enjoyed both dishes, but preferred the cold Udon a little more. The udon was fresh and had a nice chewy texture to it. The tempura was perfectly crisp and seasoned and was not oily at all. My favorite was the kabocha squash and squid! We also added the chicken tempura which was delicious. We paired our meals with plum wine (great quality) for the two of us and the final total was only $22 USD! Wish we had discovered this restaurant sooner while we were in Tokyo - absolutely a hidden gem!

Food-wise: You can taste the wheat in the Udon it was so fresh, accompanied with the dip was heavenly. The assortment of tempura we tried were all very well made, especially the squid. Service: We visited Jinroku several times on our trip for lunch and dinner. As foreigners, we always felt welcomed by the team (even though every time we went in it looked like a different server). Atmosphere: The many pictures online speak for themselves, what you don't see in the pictures is how clean, calm and quiet the restaurant is (even the toilet is kept exceptionally clean - bravo!) I can understand what people are commenting on re: the wait outdoors in the sun, we had to endure that too, however, I put these as circumstances outside of what the restaurant can mitigate. Like many restaurants in Japan, it's independently run with very little covers offering the owners/teams' version of what best represents their food, culture and value. For us, this restaurant was the best of the bunch on our trip!

A friend of mine recommended coming here for soba, so, jet lagged and tired, I came for dinner. First things first, like other reviewers mentioned, they have an English menu, so ask for it. In my exhausted stupor, I just stared at their daily specials menu, not realizing that the booklets at the seats were Japanese-language menus, and wound up ordering some sort of seafood-in-wasabi-goop thing to the confusion of the waiter. I mean, it was good, but also I also got confused when I remembered that I came for soba, not seafood-in-wasabi-goop (although it was delicious). So of course I fixed that and also ordered a tempura udon. The tempura fixings weren't too greasy while being amazingly crispy, the udon noodles were chewy and delicious, and the broth had a good, slightly-fishy flavor. Just don't be like me. Ask the waiter for an English menu.

Kirimugiya was an amazing experience, we arrived around 9:30am on a Tuesday, love the ticket system they use, you approach the entrance, use the ticket system to choose a time slot you’d like to go, of course we chose the first 11:00-12:00am seating. It showed 25 seating per hour, when we got there the first slow had 19/25 available so moooore then enough, the rest of the slots were still fully empty, got our tickets and thankfully we were staying just a 10minute walk away so went home and arrived exactly for 11:00 and got seated right away with another group of 6 ahead of us. We got the shio special combo I think it was called, it’s the most popular one, it was light and scrumptious, would definitely recommend for the experience. Prompt service, mmyummmyyy

I agree with another reviewer about eating in this place being a foreigner. They did provide an English menu, okay great thank you. It had 3 options of warm udon and three cold... That's it. Meanwhile all the other tables have so many other types of food. So that's too bad. Didn't ask if we wanted anything to drink. We could have waved them down (it's not a big place) but we decided just to eat and get out of there. The "American udon" came with chicken tempura which was a little disappointing. Was hoping for shrimp since the broth is very fishy. Overall I won't be back and wouldn't recommend this to other non-japenese speakers.

🧐 天ざるうどん / ten zaru udon 🇯🇵 切麦や 基六 / kirimugiya jinroku / shinjuku-gyoenmae, tokyo 🗓️ 07/14/2024 (@wei.oframen on ig for my ramen adventure 😚) Ramen break day! Dunno much about this shop except the fact that they are on the Michelin guide as a Bib Gourmand. Udon noods were great while the tempura's batter was light and crispy. The shop does seem to gather quite a crowd even among locals during lunch time but there were lots of seating in the shop. I was around 10th in line 15 min before lunch service on a Sunday and got seated right away when they opened.
