Before I begin, I'll just say: it's not worth it. It's pricey and the food wasn't spectacular or great. Loads of tourists, though but if you are patient, there are better places to eat.
We had the King Crab leg, squid, eel and scallops with sea urchin eggs. None - and I mean, none - were worth the price paid. The King Crab was a little pathetic, distinctly untasty (and I suspect, not fresh). The unagi was surprisingly pedestrian - worse, it tasted overcooked, not tender and the eel tasted like a cheap cut of something. The squid was rubbery. The scallop and urchin eggs were nothing to write home about. All in, about JPY11K.
A small tip - we wandered about till we found a little corner in Tsujiki run by a family (old man, wife and daughters, it appeared) serving sashimi and sushi. Old man did the cooking of course. And it was MIND-BLOWINGLY GOOD.
Just do yourself a favour and avoid spots along the main streets in Tsujiki that are awash with tourists buying food there - it's a sure sign that it isn't what the locals would...
Read moreAnybody who cares about food should feel personally offended at this shop's existence. We ordered a crab leg, prawn and scallop for about 10,000 Yen, knowing it would be overpriced but happy to have the experience and some good seafood. What we got instead was dry, rubbery, and extremely overcooked with absolutely no flavour. The prawn was actually burnt completely black to the point where the shell was crumbling to ash when we tried to remove the dry flesh. I don't believe the raw ingredients were at fault, they actually just ruined perfectly good produce with their complete lack of cooking ability. In my 3 trips to Japan this is the only time I've felt like I was scammed. There is an abundance of incredible cuisine in Tokyo and I feel for people who have travelled so far and paid so much to have good food...
Read moreNo next time. But for anyone who want to go, remember to write down your name on the wait list, else they would not serve you a table even you were first in line. Food not good. urchins don, no good, bitter taste of urchin that spoiled our appetise. I seldom write a 1 star review especially in Japan, but there is nothing good to write about this place. The service was bad, there were “tables” available but the waiters simple stood around and made us wait another 10 minutes. Had to shout out loud to stop them in mid-walk to place our order, otherwise another 10minutes wait. Took them a long time to prepare the mediocre food. Will strongly recommend avoiding this...
