The ✨️ BEST ✨️ matcha/tea experience I have ever had in my life! 🍵🍵🍵🍵

My partner and I started off arriving at the location, there is a guide on the website and on the matchatrip youtube channel to show the exact way to get to the location. With that guide we easily made our way up to the second floor of a hotel/7-eleven and to the matcha trip room. According to Chisei ( the amazing owner of matcha trip) he is great friends with the hotel owner and was able to borrow the bar during the daytime for his matcha shop+experiences! Though despite the location of the experience being over a bar top and counter, Chisei has done an wonderful at making it look cozy, relaxing and inviting with a candle holder that quite literally burns tea leaves as an insence to beautiful matcha and tea appliances and displays that decorates the area.

1000000000/10 would reccomend this to anyone! The experience is incredibly begginer friendly or even if you know nothing about tea or matcha. Chisei is incredibly knowledgable with many many years of agricultural, tea-farming and tea/matcha tasting experience and is fluent in both Japanese and English. There was absolutely no issues with him teaching and explaining certain topics regarding tea and matcha! My partner and I both asked alot of questions and Chisei gladly answered all of them with passion!

Unfortunately we were not able to meet with Chisei's wife (Rina) who co-runs the shop occasionally, however we tried multiple tea/matcha sweets handmade by his wife and BOY OH BOY they were absolutely delicious!! 😋🤤 I do look foward to maybe recipe's or tutorial video's for how to make such delicious sweets!

The experience my partner and I experienced was a fairly newly created idea, it was the "tailormade" matcha/tea experience where for 1-2 hours more or less you get to choose exactly what you want to do for the experience. For us, I chose to do the following:

-Tasting of 6 types of Japanese tea -Tasting of 8 types of matcha -Brew Japanese tea by yourself -Whisk matcha by yourself -Make your own matcha latte -Homemade sweets that pair well with tea

It was alot of activities planned and we were able to get them all done within 2 hours or so, we went at a normal pace, with lots of questions, answering, talking, teaching, and sometimes just enjoying the moment of sitting in silence, sipping the tea while Chisei either starts making our next batch or also enjoys a cup with us. ☺️

If you choose the bundle of options like I did make sure to have some light food prior and to book this for the earliest time as you will be caffeinated for a whole 8-12 hours 🤪 hehe~

Once again, Chisei did a fantastic job explaining everything tea and matcha related from where it grows, to what water is suitable for which tea type, to how its made from plant to tea-leaves/powder. Chisei is very easy to talk with, super friendly and passionate about not just tea and matcha topics but also other cool facts about japan even! Best tea/matcha sensei ever!! 🎉✨️

Chisei was able to give an superb food reccomendation to one of his favourite soba noodle shops that is quite literally like 1-2 min walk away from the matchatrip store. It was called Koshuya and we both ordered his reccomended soba "Hiyashi Mujina Soba" best thing i've eaten and it was a perfect compliment after drinking all the tea and matcha.

We bought two matcha bowls, a matcha measuring spoon and of course some delicious Kagoshima matcha powder 😋 Can't wait to make them when I get back from my trip! I also bought a hojicha ice cream too before we said our goodbyes 🍦🤤🤎 so so SO delicious!

Both my partner and I have discovered our favourite prefecture matcha as well as type of tea leaves! Love the taste of genmaicha and gyokuro for tea and kyoto+kagoshima+hojicha matcha. I can't wait to buy more from the online store! 🤩🫖🍵

If you're down for 1-2 hours of pure hands on + really cool facts and learning topics on tea/matcha experience, this is for you! Even better if you choose a private session like we had...

Booked this matcha experience the afternoon before (happened to be the last spot out of 5 total slots) on Viator after feeling FOMO towards missing out on a matcha making experience at Chazuna (Uji). Tourists, book your experiences ahead! I was very pleased to start off my greater Tokyo experience with matcha trip.

I would recommend other tourists to do a little learning about matcha/tea prior to this experience as it'd deepen appreciation for what you learn & experience. But, this is also very informative & exciting for those going in cold knowledge-wise, as Chisei-san has 7(?) years of farming experience, working English explanations of the processes and types of tea, a structured organized experience that tourists can follow in English, and an incredible wealth of experience-informed knowledge.

The general experience is: learning about matcha (production, process, using handout visuals, etc) comparing your 10 matchas (aka tasting) trying matcha/hojicha lattes final wrap-up, questions

Of course if they change the format that is up to them. At the end, the 5 of us got to look at the little shop/products area, and as a HOJICHA lover, I was excited to find powdered hojicha. From higher grade leaves. Bought myself x2 bags!

Could keep raving about this experience because it was so enjoyable & informative. Thank you...

I was looking for a good Matcha place in this area. When I found Matcha Trip I really didn’t know what to expect, I was just hoping for good Matcha. Walking into the building, where the cafe is connected to a hotel on the second floor. I was thinking “Oh this is just a hotel cafe.” I was WRONG, we were immediately greeted by Rina with a huge smile and good vibes. We sat down and she walked us through the different options in the menu and recommended how to order. We got the flight of matcha for a tasting before we ordered what matcha to get in the full size drinks we ordered. Rina told us about the different regions each one came from. She also provided a map with each level bitterness , umami, roasting aroma, green and freshness. Told us how to try the matcha flight. Chisei, Rina’s husband walked us through the process of how matcha is grown and the difference between each. He used to farm matcha and is very knowledgeable about the process. Rina also makes the desserts at the cafe, which were amazing! This was such a great experience and they are only open Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s! Thank you Rina and Chisei, this was such a great experience and I can’t wait to come back...

Thank you Rina and Chisei, this was such a great experience and I can’t wait to come back to learn more!
