After my initial visit to McDonald's I was worried I was going to bed hungry due to their notoriously abysmal portions, but God Almighty has graced me with a miracle. On my way to the hotel I've stumbled upon another good ol' Mickey D's. Knowing darn well how small the portions were, I've come prepared. I was starving, yet I've decided to be even more adventurous and bold this time. I figured what the heck, when in Rome do as the Romans do, so I ordered myself three of their Samurai Soy Hamburgers, "large" fries and 10 pieces of chicken McNuggets (I'm trying to hit my protein intake goal). The real challenge this time was trying to find the Samurai Hamburger on the menu screen, then I realized it's actually called "Soy Hamburger" there, they really do it differently over here! This fine establishment had an actual elevator to go up, so I wouldn't have to suffer going up the stairs this time! The elevator itself however was so tiny, that even I (I'm at a healthy weight of only 413,8 pounds) could barely fit in! Luckily, the locals were eager to let me ride the elevator up alone when I showed them my American passport (I guess they remember who brought them McDonald's in the first place). As for the mysteriously exotic and alluring Soy Samurai Hamburger- it was good, the buns were as soft as in the previous McDonald's, however they promised a thick beef patty, but it looks like the chef took most of the beef home and gave me a sample size, respectfuly, if you know what I mean. I found the cheese to be quite strange as well, it had a weird cloth-like texture and tasted like tissue- nothing can beat American cheese. The sauce was nothing like anything I've ever tried before in my life, and it's coming from an exotic food afficionado, I know my enchiladas and tacos better than most folk. But in the end the burgers really lacked salt. I've also ordered what they call a "large" drink (I try to watch my hydration levels). As I knew the Japanese don't use corn syrup in their drinks, I've taken a packet of sugar at the cashiers to put inside my Fanta, sadly, one packet was simply not enough. To sum it up- where Japanese lack in quantities, they make up in deep textures. The Samurai Hamburger is truly a monument to fusion of global tastes, it had brought me on an exciting culinary adventure! I would recommend any red-blooded American that aren't afraid to go out their comfort zone to dine here to bring something more culturally diverse...

Of course any visit to a new country you have to try McDonalds to see the difference.

Samurai Mac (black pepper sauce that made the difference), Shrimp Filet-O (I prefer the OG filet-O fish), Double Cheese Burger (good and comparable to North American double cheese burger), Tsukimi beef tsukiyaki bruger (Pretty good, unique). Aside from the shrimp filet-o and double cheese burger, the other items are seasonal (but I am sure there is some similar variation throughout the seasons). For sure worth a try, and wayyy cheaper than North America McDs!

Overall Kel rating: ★★★★/5 The good: Unique flavours, cheap eats The decent: Credit cards...

The two self-ordering machines are often busy, so using the mobile app to order is much faster and more convenient. The restaurant has ample seating and a high turnover rate, which made it easy to find a seat even during peak hours.

I did notice a few people hogging seats without ordering any food, but despite the busyness, the trash bins were kept remarkably clean. That level of cleanliness left a very good impression.

I highly recommend trying their special seasoned fries, often called "Shaka Shaka Potato" here in Japan. The flavors are usually limited-time offers, so they might not always be available, but they are definitely...

I would recommend any red-blooded American that aren't afraid to go out their comfort zone to dine here to bring something more culturally diverse on the plates.

Overall Kel rating: ★★★★/5 The good: Unique flavours, cheap eats The decent: Credit cards accepted The ugly: None.
