Mikkeller has always been a special brewery in my books. A good friend of mine introduced me to craft beer, and I think it was a Mikkeller. It was love at first sight. Fast forward many years later, I’ve had my fair share of craft beer especially Mikkelers, and I’ve never been disappointed — until my trip to the one in Tokyo.
I simply wanted to taste the beer before buying, but the guy behind the bar looked slightly annoyed. After trying about three different ones, I finally decided on two. After finishing those, I went back to the bar to get more drinks and asked a lady if I could try a couple of others. The guy whispered something to her, as if I were some kind of scammer. After trying two more beers, she said, “This will be your last tasting,” like it was a warning. I bet it was the guy who told her something about me.
I don’t get it. I was clearly going to buy more drinks, and I was also ready to spend money on merchandise. But after being treated like I was just trying to taste everything on the tap list without buying anything, I felt insulted.
Is it because I’m not white? I don’t know.

It shares a space with a small coffee shop and a restaurant upstairs. They do not offer food, just a few snacks like mixed nuts. I found everything ridiculously expensive, and the bartender had zero personality. I arrived with great expectations and left sad that it didn't impress me at all. Sorry, but I can't recommend. My small beer and mixed nuts were 9 USD, literally the smallest beer I've ever had. I'm on to my next pub...let's see how...

We found this place because we were staying at the hotel above it and ended up coming back here most evenings.
It had a good range of craft beers, lots of belgian beers for example.
It was a bit more expensive than some bars in Japanese because a lot of the beers were imported, but still reasonable.
The music was fantastic. Lots of cool house vibes. The music was the perfect volume, loud but you could still hear each other speak.
I...
