My husband and I went to Shibuya on Saturday. We walked around for a while, and as it got close to lunchtime, we started thinking about what to eat. It was a hot and sunny summer day, and we couldn’t decide, until my husband suddenly remembered a ramen place he really liked, known for serving karaage (fried chicken), pork, and ramen all in the same bowl.
We walked all the way there. It was around 1 p.m., and there weren’t many people inside, probably because it’s a bit far from the main street. We were happy to see they had outdoor seating. Even though it was hot, we still enjoyed sitting outside.
We ordered from the vending machine near the entrance. My husband got a medium glass of beer and the 超男盛り豚骨ラーメン, while I ordered 5 pieces of しそ餃子 (shiso gyoza).
The staff was very kind, when he saw us outside, he came out right away to assist and set up the outdoor table for us. He even asked if we wanted to share the ramen and kindly gave us an extra bowl. That was really thoughtful.
On the table, there were many condiments and toppings available, including seaweed, spicy oil, plum paste, citrus chili paste, grated garlic, also soy sauce, vinegar, and chili oil for the gyoza.
The しそ餃子 arrived first. I love shiso, and this is a must-try for any shiso lover!! The skin was thin and crispy, the pork inside was juicy and flavorful, and the size was just right, not too big or too small. With the dipping sauce, it was perfect. I think this has become one of my favorite gyoza now!!
My husband’s 超男盛り豚骨ラーメン looked impressive, a big bowl filled with two juicy pieces of karaage, two slices of chashu, a seasoned egg (ajitama), and noodles, topped with spicy oil and green onions. I liked that you could customize the noodles (thick/thin, soft/hard, small/large portion). We chose all the normal options this time.
The broth was rich and flavourful, absolutely delicious. I liked adding some seaweed to it. The noodles were chewy and satisfying, the karaage was juicy, the chashu was tasty (though a bit too fatty for me), and the egg was nicely done.
The shiso gyoza was so good that we decided to try another type, the 名物俺流餃子, which is the original version. It had a more classic taste, still good, but I personally preferred the shiso gyoza.
We’re already thinking about coming back again, my husband really loved the ramen, and I can’t stop thinking about the shiso gyoza!! There are also many other ramen options I want to try, and next time I’d love to try the チーズ餃子, ワンタン, and 油淋鶏. I wish there was an option to order chashu on its own, but I didn’t see it on the menu.
My husband and I had a very enjoyable lunch here. We were happy with the food, the variety of choices, the friendly atmosphere, and the outdoor...
Read moreI found this ramen store while looking for a place to have dinner. It seemed to have quite a good review. It is located just off the shopping area of Shibuya. Like any Tokyo ramen store, this restaurant is quite small. Ordering is through a self-ordering kiosk. English is available, and credit cards are accepted, too.
There are various types of ramen to choose from—various soup types and different toppings. There are also many sides to add on, such as gyoza and fried chicken. Ordered a ramen with the chicken cutlet. The soup is tasty and not overly salty. Noodles are cooked nicely. The chicken, even though it is deep-fried, is tender. Char siu is also tender and flavorful. Additional condiments are provided, and you can add them to enhance the taste of the ramen. It also add another dimension to the taste of the soup and ramen.
All in all, it was a satisfying meal, and I will definitely visit again. If you find yourself in the area, I recommend giving this ramen store a try. You won't be...
Read moreThe store doesn't look like much but they have constant delivery and take away orders.
Managed by 2 pax, they handle the constant orders and flowing customers and don't stop. Do have a bit of patience cos the cooking does take a bit of time. It's a one man show.
Now, the food is unpretentious but just wholesome good and well balanced. Not overly salty, despite being shio (salt) ramen, and is fragrant. Noodles albeit the yellow kind dont carry the disturbing alkaline taste. Add the chilli topping for added taste and umami. Truly a great bowl of ramen.
They also have gyoza available but not outstanding.
The condiments are a great addition. 2 types of seaweed/kelp available, which adds flavour and texture to the meal. There's also the plum, spicy citrus and garlic paste available for added flavour. Our favourite was the spicy citrus which added additional dimensions to the dish.
Eggs are well seasoned, pork was nice and tender.
Definitely a great place to dine...
