We've been treated like royalty here in Tokyo every time, and because of that, we had high hopes for Granbell rooftop bar too. We checked, that because of national holiday, food was served until 21.30, and drinks until 22.00. We came in, and the terrace was full, and we were asked to wait inside. People from 2 tables left, and the tables were cleaned, but no one came to tell us, it was our time to go outside, until, we went, and asked ourselves. Even then, the waiters seemed to be confused, if we could go out to the terrace or not. It was about 21.10, when they finally came to take our order. Then the waiter just told us, that we couldn't order from the food menu anymore. We were surprised, but ordered drinks then. Cocktails were good. But after the first cocktails, we were invisible again. We pushed the call button on the table, and tried to get the waiters to notice us. Not a chance! Just before 22.00, we finally got to order our 2nd cocktails. The we noticed, that the hotel customers got to order food even then. Then it was the waiting game to get the bill!! We pushed the button several times!! Finally paid and left.
We were not the only fed up customers, some even left, cause they got tired of waiting to get the order in.
So, all in one, great cocktails, nice views, but totally lousy service! Worst I've ever gotten in Japan! And it wasn't because there wasn't enough staff, or that it would have been...
Read moreDefinitely had higher expectations based on the Japanese culture we've experienced so far and the recommendations on various websites. We visted the Rooftop Bar and did not enjoy our experience. The website listed all drinks during happy hour as 500 Yen. When we arrived there was a list of drinks that were only under happy hour, not all drinks (2 wines, a champagne, a beer, and a few whiskey high balls). The garlic bread was actually the best dish we had but still only 4 pieces of french bread. The garlic shrimp were very small (not like red or butterfly shrimp size) and lacked flavor. We ordered the smoked chicken ceasar salad and am certain we received ham (based on the color of the meat, the texture, the fat present throughout, the skin and it's texture, and the fat present in between the meat and the skin). We brought this to the wait staff's attention and they said they verified it was chicken, and then proceeded to laugh at us when we explained why this certainly didn't look or taste like chicken. For a proclaimed high-end establishment, this kind of behavior is not befitting. They refused to take it back and we ended up having to dig the ham out (as my partner doesn't eat pork). Overall it was a disappointment, we didn't even stay for dark to see the city because we felt so disrespected, it killed the mood entirely. It certainly was not worth the 500 Yen table charge per...
Read moreNice view to the north on a clear afternoon. We arrived at 4:30. Told we could come in but had to leave by 5:30. We ordered ice cream. Mistakenly assumed we would get two scoops for 770 yen so one of us asked for two different flavors. I ordered cassis sherbet, which was taken to mean cassis and strawberry. We thus wound up with four orders, a total of 3080 yen, plus 10% service charge. Two smallish glasses of Prosecco ( short pour) added another 2640 (plus the service charge). I.e., $56.16 for ice cream and a glass of bubbly.
On top of that, the decor is abysmal. Nothing elegant, stylish or attractive anywhere in sight. It’s pure 1960s Atlantic City, with faux appliqué patterns in a confused jumble of styles. Ride the elevator to the top if you must see the view but take my advice and skip...
