You will not find a better location at a cheaper price anywhere else in the Shinjuku area.
With Shinjuku being one of the most desirable places to stay in Tokyo, you will find most of the accommodation on offer is either quite expensive or no larger than staying in a shoebox. Not the case with Hotel & Spa J-Mex Shinjuku. We stayed here for 5 nights with two people for only $560 AUD per person.
The room we stayed in was spacious, and also came with a large jacuzzi and even a sauna and karaoke machine.
The location itself is actually a love hotel, but the owners seem to have realised that they can earn some steady money by offering rooms to foreigners who want to stay an extended period of time.
Being that it is a love hotel, this has various pros and cons. In terms of the pros, aside from the large room and great bathroom facilities already mentioned, the room is quiet and private and you will have amenities refreshed daily (soaps, etc.) along with room cleaning.
In terms of some cons, there are no views or anything from the rooms. Due it being a love hotel it's all very confined to your room. Also when you leave your room to explore for the day you need to leave your key with the staff at the front for some reason. Though when you get back they will give you back your key no problems, the front area always had staff there when we needed it (though it's all kept very private, you cannot see their faces or anything).
Occasionally you will run into some couples in the main foyer, which is somewhat amusing.
The hotel is located in a bit of a seedy area of Shinjuku that has multiple other love hotels, but it is a pretty quick 5 minute walk or so to the closest subway.
I think you would be hard-pressed to find a more spacious room with better facilities and a cheaper price in Shinjuku than here, so as long as you don't mind some of the 'love hotel' vibes you get from this location then I would recommend it as a great place to...
Read moreObsessed with this hotel! Let start off with a few warnings.
The entrance to this hotel is in a back street, so like most of Shinjuku's back streets, it's a little dingey. However, location is perfect, so don't let this deter you! It's very close to the supreme Don Quijote (affectionately nicknamed Donki), which is probably the best one we went to for well stocked cheap goods. Also very close to a 7/11 and LOTS of restaurants and nightlife.
Second, it's a love hotel. Again, don't let this deter you! It's not in your face at all, unless you come across the ummm... specific TV Channels. You can also order outfits to your room if that's your thing, how cute!
Now for all amazing things! We had a sauna room and this was INCREDIBLE on a winter's night. The jet bath tub is huge, easily large enough for two 6 foot plus adults, as well as it having mood lighting, bubble bath and salts and a TV in the room!
The bathroom sink is a vanity, complete with chair, which was really refreshing and also came WELL stocked with supplies (razors, shower caps, lotions etc) for all genders.
The karaoke really had everything and even though I couldn't figure out how to use it at first, the staff came up to the room multiple times to help me out. Thank you for your patience! To my shock, they had metal/rock songs available, which I never expected and I was absolutely thrilled.
The only thing I wasn't thrilled about was the beds were thinner than expected, they could do with an upgrade!
One thing to note is that if you leave the hotel for the day, you're expected to hand in your key in exchange for a slip. This is a simple process once you get used to it!
Super cost effective and massive rooms for Tokyo, don't have any doubts...
Read moreOkay, so I just gotta say, my stay at Hotel & Spa J-MEX in Shinjuku was seriously awesome! I had such a blast. First off, the room was way bigger than I expected, which was a huge plus. Tokyo rooms can be tiny, but this place felt super spacious and comfy. A wealth of in-room amenities? Seriously, a dream! Karaoke? Yes, please! The entertainment system was so much fun, and I definitely spent a good chunk of time belting out my favorite tunes. But honestly, the steam room? That was the real MVP. My skin felt amazing, and it was the perfect way to chill after a busy day. I'm so grateful for the staff, too. They were all incredibly friendly and helpful, like, seriously the nicest people ever. And the location? Perfect! Being right in Kabukicho, everything was within walking distance. So many amazing places to eat and explore. Shinjuku is just so lively, and it was so cool to be right in the middle of it all. Honestly, I had such a great time at Hotel & Spa J-MEX. If you’re looking for a fun, unique, adults-only stay with awesome in-room perks and a killer location, you should totally check it out. I'm...
