"I’m puzzled as to why this shop receives four stars for serving cheap cream (maybe that’s just the perspective of some amateur customers). Compared to Starbucks, which offers its own unique cream, this place doesn’t measure up. While the atmosphere is lovely and provides a nice view, it feels more like a tourist trap. I had initially considered ordering a special drink, but as I walked in, I noticed that all their products come from Kinokuniya supermarket. At that point, I thought I might as well go directly to Kinokuniya, which is nearby. In the end, I changed my mind and ordered a regular coffee, which felt overpriced for the quality of the cream.

I also recalled an experience with a female clerk in Japan who seemed to look down on customers, which is disappointing. It’s important to remember that not all Japanese people share that attitude; many are not welcoming and some...
Read moreThis coffee shop is definitely one of the better looking café that we have been to. It is located on the second floor of Harajuku station building, hence very convenient location to get to around a shopping district. I loved that once you enter, you have the modern look of the café, and as you walk further inside it will blend into a more traditional environment.
In the modern end, you get a large wooden table that is under a sky light window, hence providing with plenty of natural light (even on a rainy cloudy day). While in the traditional side, if you sit near the window side, you get to over look the surrounding area around Harajuku station (helps to be on the second floor).
In terms of the drinks. We ordered a matcha latte and pick up coffee beans for myself. The matcha is very very good. Not too sweet, and definitely can taste the matcha. No verdict on the beans yet, as its still waiting in line to be trialed.
Overall Kel rating: ★★★★★/5 The good: Lots and lots of seating, wifi available, very nice environment/workspace. The decent: There is an English menu available, credit card friendly The ugly: coffee beans are in the...
Read moreConveniently located just outside the exit for Meiji Jingu of Harajuku station, Sarutahiko offers an escape hatch from the always busy and crowded Harajuku district. The store’s big skylight lets in natural light, which adds to the mesmerizing mood of the space. Once seated inside, you’ll notice how effortless it is to chat with your friends. There is something about the interior structure that doesn’t let your voice be drowned out by the sounds of conversations from other tables and the noise from the coffee bar.
When it comes to the food and drinks, Sarutahiko has its own story to tell. It is not a copycat of chain coffee shops. We tried the Indian mango frappe, iced matcha latte, and pulled pork sandwich. Overall, we enjoyed what we ordered, though the sandwich was on the dry side (it might benefit from a little more sauce or spread).
Hopefully when we return here we can take one of the tables with an unobstructed view of the...
