This is not the place if you’re looking for authentic Greek food…
The pros: the ambience is very nice, and you get a nice city view if you sit by the windows. The whole concept, from decor to service, reminds me of restaurants in New York (especially when the server asked “sparking or still”). The pita breads were served warm (although presented in a pizza box which I found perplexing) and had a nice texture
The cons: the food was disappointing for the most part. I was very much looking forward to the moussaka as they told us it’s baked to order and took 40 minutes to come, but the bland white sauce and sweet tomato sauce made it taste like frozen lasagna from Costco…it definitely needed some spices. It’s not that it tasted awful — this is just not Greek moussaka. The yellow peas dip was also interesting. It was my fault for assuming that it’d taste like hummus because it did not. It was a little tangy, the texture was thick and lacked fragrance (again missing some spices perhaps) which didn’t make it a nice complement to the pita breads. For the main we got the lamb shoulder - it wasn’t too bad, and the tzatziki dip that came with it was pretty nice. The meat was allegedly cooked for a long time so it was tender indeed, but to the point that the texture became dry and mushy, tasting like something overcooked in a pressure cooker. The flavor was on point though.
When the server came by and asked how the food was, we said it was ok, but the server didn’t care to ask what we didn’t like about it and proceeded to boast about how they have many loyal customers. I am not Greek so I am in no place to judge the authenticity, but I’ve been to Greece and many good Greek restaurants in New York. I just think I’ve had so much better Greek food and this is not this amazing cuisine should be represented in Tokyo. For the price that we paid, there’re so many better food options in Tokyo.
Disclaimer: upon some further research I found that this place is “Australian-Greek”, so perhaps this is a fusion restaurant where things aren’t supposed to...
Read moreFirst of all, this is not a real Greek dining experience. If you look for that, please look elsewhere.
What does an amazing Greek dining experience consist of you ask? It's cozy ambiance, down to earth, actually portion sizes that make you full. Maybe some low key Greek music in the background & if you're really lucky even plates being smashed to the ground accompanied by Belly dancers. Let's not forget a free Raki after the meal and sometimes even free dessert.
Now this is rare, but in Apollo you get NOTHING of the sorts. The ambiance is so cold it's more out of a dystopian cyberpunk future than anything else. The portions are minuscule & the prizes over the top. There is no wholesome charm in the air & people either.
Greek food is like melody, it's in a sort of like Italian, in this that every Greek momma thinks it's so important that you are full after eating. And they would hate it, cause you go hungry or broke here.
It tries to be a fusion experience I guess, but really, there's not much Greek left in it. I think Apollo probably is on his knees begging Zeus to throw a few lightning strikes into that direction.
You still might love the place, because it's pretentious, hip, overpriced & goes the route of marketing over substance, but I hated it. Because I went for Greek, and got a complete mashup of what someone not often - or ever - enjoying Greek hospitality thinks that Greek is.
Go at your own risk. I myself have this in the top 3 most hated restaurants of my life. While not in the top 10 of the worst dining experiences. Food itself is not excellent but decent enough. Just make sure you come with the right mindset, ignore their praises of themselves (they're obviously full of it) and just expect a bunker experience meets cyberpunk with overpriced food and you might think it wasn't as bad as this reviewer here made it out to be.
Probably even like it. But...
Read moreI was a bit worried a lot at first because I read a lot of reviews and some are very bad but actually we went there yesterday. Well the atmosphere was absolutely fantastic. We got counter seat so I decreased 1 star for atmosphere because if you get counter seat,it is not comfortable lol. Ofc we can sit but you know, 2 hours were a bit tired for sitting that kind of chair.
Food I gave 5 stars. It’s the first time for us to having greece food. Very easy to eat and very delicious. Not too sweet not too salty. It’s quite balanced flavor. Very nice. We ordered main dish with Lamb shoulder. It’s really soft! Easy to eat. Only one thing was lamb was strong smell.. although they served greek yogurt and lemon for avoiding the lamb smell.. it’s remained. That’s a pity point.
Lemon pie! A lot of reviews said that it is too sweet? But for us not at all! Very delicious! Perfect dish!
About service.. not bad. Just so so! They are all polite but they cannot recommend Nah not cannot We asked about the difference of 2 wines. Staffs did not know at all but they went to check with someone who knows We waited a bit around 5-10mins for ordering wine haha But well hmm not too bad. It’s so so.
And beware that they serve free water drink But they will ask if you want sparkling water of mineral water which is charged. Japanese is a bit hard to be understand for us so we ordered without checking that it was charged. Very expensive.
Since the location is at Ginza Seriously here is extremely expensive 😂😂 Food is good , the atmosphere is good But you know maybe if you search carefully, might be found similar restaurant which price is more about acceptable.
Since every dishes are expensive so we ordered only 4 dishes with 1 bottle wine.
It took around 20k jpy 🤣🤣 Well good experience. So it’s worth...
