[Preface: We don't speak Japanese and couldn't find an email address for the restaurant so I'm posting here. Hopefully the owner can contact me to follow up ] During our Japan trip earlier this week, our family of four went to La Boheme on Monday 4/10/23 at around 7:40PM. They were able to seat us without having reservations which we greatly appreciated. We were seated in the section centered directly in front of the cook station. While we were browsing the menu, we and the other customers saw a flash of flame. My wife and one of our young daughter(8 yrs old) flinched and let out a light scream. Apparently, grease/oil splashed over the guard partition while the cook flipped a steak or whatever he was cooking. The scattered oil drops burned my wifes face, hand as well as damaged her jacket and shirt. My daughters hand had several burn marks. Obviously, under the dim lighting, we couldn't see the affect until the next morning and days later where the burn marks were darkening. Because we weren't sure of the seriousness of the event, we agreed to stay and they reseated us elsewhere. While we were getting over the shock, the staff apologized and we believed it to be genuine. However, the young cook that caused it didn't apologize and he continued cooking in front of us. We felt it was probably because of the language thing or he just didn't know how to react, but we were still disappointed about him not trying. In our new spot, we observed another unfortunate mishap in the kitchen. One of the cooks that did come out and apologize to us earlier dropped a pan/pot of very hot sauce and he was on the floor for quite some time. It appeared he suffered serious burns on his arm. When he was able to, he ran into the back kitchen. The staff was slipping on the floor in front of everyone as they tried to figure out what happened and help him. We hope he is ok. After that, we decided to leave. One of the waiters(we think he was a supervisor) walked with us as we exited the restaurant apologizing. We feel bad that all of this happened as our trip to Japan was overall a fun experience. We have pictures of the burn marks on my wife and child as well as the damaged clothing. I hope the owners contact us. All the staff that night were very attentive and should be able to confirm the account I described...
Read moreI have spent two weeks in Japan, traveling from Tokyo to Kyoto to Osaka to Hiroshima and then back to Tokyo. I have had several memorable meals, from Big City eateries to a wonderful family run restaurant in the village of Kawagita. None of those meals, however, compared to the delightful menu I have been served at Cafe LaBoheme in Tokyo. So good was the food, the staff and the atmosphere that I returned not once but twice, for a total of three of the best meals I have ever had served. On my first visit my son Malcolm and I just happened to pass the entrance (a brick stairwell leading to a cozy, European-styled dining room/kitchen) and the wonderful aroma drifting out of the doorway called us in. Not knowing that LaBoheme usually caters to an adult crowd they nonetheless welcomed us both in, sat us at the right hand corner of the bar and served us the best Buffalo Wings (exquisitely dry-rubbed), Malcolm had the Lasagna appetizer and I had the US Premium Beef Steak w/garlic-soy sauce accompanied by 2 Sicilian Lemor Sour cocktails and a special shot, "Slava Ukraine" of which 200 yen of the price was donated to Ukraine 🇺🇦 relief. SKOAL! KAMPAI!! The next evening I was compelled to bring both my sons and my wife and unfortunately we were running late and although our meal was incredible because of the Last Train we were not able to sit and savor the meal as should have been appropriate. For my last night in Japan I had to return for one last visit. I was able to linger so I began with another Sicilian Lemon Sour, another delightful plate of the crispiest chicken wings ever and a last serving of the best steak ever (medium rare, as the Chef intended). Tonight there was time to linger and even have dessert (apple pie fresh from the oven). One more Sicilian and I'll be leaving. Tremendous appreciation to my servers KO & Yusei, the Chefs Hassanah & Hashi and their incredible staff, the jubilant bartender who made the best cocktails. Everyone was so warm and welcoming and even as I write this finishing my last drink I am already missing LaBoheme'. I will return, and you should seek them out. From Louisville Kentucky I send my love and appreciation. OISHIDESU!!! IT'S...
Read moreNice restaurant with a good atmosphere. I'd come here with a date. I ordered the lasagne, which isn't too pricy. For some reason it was served with a runny egg on top, but then again this is Japan. You have to get used to runny eggs randomly appearing on top of the dishes you order. It was a bit small but not abnormally so. Taste was good not great. After, I ordered the pistachio gelato because seeing pistachio ice cream in Japan is sort of like spotting a unicorn crossing the street outside of Akihabara. Quite rare. Either it didn't taste much like pistachio or I'm just accustom to mind rotting concentrations of flavor common is the US. It still tested good mind you. It was served on a cone, but for some reason the waitress gave me a spoon and motioned for me to use it. I tied, failed then ate it like the barbarian I am.
Nice atmosphere. Friendly servers. OK food. A bit pricy overall. Restaurant gets 3 stars. Japan gets 5 stars for still causing me to make confused foreigner faces even...
