I visited a standing-style umeboshi shop in the nearby Solamachi area, where I was recommended to check out a set meal restaurant in Asakusa run by the same company. At the umeboshi shop, I was given a mysterious description: “Think of it as a late breakfast or an early dinner,” which piqued my interest enough to give it a try.
As for the shop, most of the products they sell are nearly identical to what you can find at the umeboshi shop, so there’s not much of a unique factor in that regard. However, the set meals are generally delicious, and their monthly special dishes are particularly good. While I haven’t tried everything on the menu yet, nothing I’ve ordered so far has been disappointing.
If I had to point out a complaint, it would be about how slow the turnover can be. This might be because of the customers or the shop itself, but at times, about half the patrons seem to shamelessly sit and chat endlessly even after finishing their meals, which seriously impacts the flow of the restaurant.
On the second floor, there’s a valuable rest area that is usually quiet and peaceful unless there’s an exhibition going on. Sometimes, it’s completely empty, making it a great place to relax.
Other than that, my only major dissatisfaction would be the operating hours, as they close rather early. This is perhaps the biggest...

The special includes everything from the simple breakfast plus three side dishes, which is determined by drawing a stick (1/7). The sticks correspond to a specific japanese common diety, which they then place a little figurine of in front of you to keep track of which side dish set you got. Cute concept, adds some fun to the dining thematically. Also you choose from 1/16 different kinds of pickled plum. Here we were completely lost as each plum had a specific flavor profile...we just asked for their recommendation.
In the end it is a neat and unique dining experience with impeccable service. Be prepared for a...
Read moreEven though we had to wait around 45 mins, it was totally worth it and would go again. Food was outstanding and different. Staff was very friendly even though their English was very limited. They had menu in english so we could pick easily. Sake was very good and generous. Plum juice delicious as was the Miso soup. The egg is like a mousse texture, something I haven't tried anywhere else and very good . We tried the fried chicken and the pork menu. Highly recommend it We took our kids (4 & 6 years old) and even though we thought it could be not very kid friendly we were totally wrong as they really enjoyed the food and the experience of...
