We loved the Dormy Inn! It was our first experience with this chain.||||Admittedly the rooms were a little dingy. But they were clean and for us the other amenities outweighed this aspect.||||The location is fantastic. It's on the Sumida-gawa (Sumida river) directly across from Tokyo sky tree and Asahi beer hall. There's a walking path along the river and yakatabune rentals right below the hotel. You're also just blocks away from Senso-ji and Asakusa jinja, some of the most visited sites in Japan; and the kitchen ware streets (Kappabashi-dori). Asakusa is just a great district to wander around.||||Get a river view room if you can. The window and door opened on to a small balcony. Our rooms had a mini-fridge; teapot and matcha; yukata & slippers for use in the hotel, and people totally wear these around. ||It's best to get more than one room if you have more than two people.||||There were so many services in this hotel we appreciated||- nightly free noodles (ramen in shoyu sauce). They were delicious! I gather this is offered at all hotels in the chain.||-onsen. No tattoos allowed but they'll give you patches to cover them. The baths have separate hours for men and women. They're on the top floor of the hotel and there's an indoor hot tub, cold tub, and sauna, plus an outdoor hot tub and benches to sit on and take in the view - watch you don't create your own view in return! ;-)||-foot bath - also on the top floor, this is outdoors and fun to sit and take in the view||-laundry machines available (washer and detergent were complimentary, dryer...
Read moreThe Dormy Inn Express (until just recently the Dormy Inn Global Cabin) is my new favorite place to stay in Asakusa. Located on the banks of the Sumida River, I highly recomment getting a riverview room. The 10th floor sento is large and has a great view of the Sumida River and the buildings on the East Bank including the Skytree and the Asahi Beer buildings. It is just south of the new Sumida River Walk pedestrian bridge added to the Tobu Hanakawado Railway Bridge that connects the West side of the river with the East side with shops along the Kitajukken River. The sento features a Fujiyu outdoor bath that is very relaxing. I am particularly fond of rotenburo (outdoor baths). The 10th floor also has a coed foot bath. On holidays and weekends the sento is reserved for women to use until 8PM. There is also a new system allowing guests to use the bathing facilities at the nearby Onyado Nono Dormy Premium Asakusa Natural Hot Springs. The 10th floor has frozen treats in the afternoons and evenings and a yogurt beverage in the mornings. There are also vending machines with Meiji milk and coffee milk. In the evenings they serve complimentary Yonaki soba noodles in the lobby from 9:30 PM until 11 PM. The rooms have a good sized refrigerator including freezer compartment. Also a microwave. This past February (5th), Tokyo experienced a somewhat rare heavy snow fall. The view across the Sumida River was entertaining?/beautiful?. There was quite the lightening/thunder display centered around...
