We saw the Megaton ramen featured on Abroad in Japan and knew we had to try this place. The bowl looked massive and the toppings seemed endless, but thankfully there were other options that were normal sized that appeared super appetizing.
Since Shibuya was in the books to visit, we made it our mission to go here for lunch. The storefront really draws you in with those fake food displays so you get a 360 view of each bowl. Boyfriend was set on accepting the challenge of the Megaton, but I decided to try out one of their popular choice - Miso Butter Corn.
When we arrived, two seats just opened up and we were seated within a minute of arrival. The host helped us place our order at the vending machine and we took the tickets to our seat. Once seated, we handed it over to the chef and they started assembling the pieces. Since it's just bar seating only, you get a nice view of how everything goes down.
It took about 10 minutes for our food to arrive. They prep the broth followed by noodles and then toppings. I ordered the Ganso Kobuta Yaro Large for ¥1,030 plus ¥300 extra for the large size, but it honestly wasn’t large at all..especially compared to almost every other ramen place I’ve been to in Tokyo or elsewhere in Japan over the past two years. The bowl was about 70–80% bean sprouts, with just two tiny pieces of meat, one of which was pure fat. The flavor was okay-ish, but overall it felt like poor value. The loud TV playing J-Pop or K-Pop in the corner didn’t help either...who needs that in a ramen shop? 😭 I suspected it might be a tourist trap since it’s on Center Gai in Shibuya, but I decided to give it the benefit of the doubt. Turns out, I should’ve trusted my gut. No wonder Ramen Jiro usually has a proper queue outside...it’s miles better in...
