Soup curry is a specialty dish of Hokkaido that I would describe as a heavily flavoured broth with braised meat and (mostly seasonal) vegetables, served with a side of rice. From this restaurant you have a few menu options, including a vegetarian one. I tried the bacon and mushroom and the braised pork, both with spicy level 1 (a little bit spicy). The thick cut bacon was nicely cooked but maybe too fatty for my taste after a several bites. The mushroom was tender and hearty and the braised pork cooked to a melt in your mouth tasty. In the soup there was also eggplant, red pepper, a potato, some carrot, broccoli and a single quail egg and topped with fresh herbs and greens. All were delicious and juicy from being cooked in the curry. All in all I’d say it’s a very good dish, especially for winter. It looks light but it tastes heavy.
The staff were polite and attentive, friendly to foreigners. The restaurant is quite small with two tables for larger groups and some bar seating in front of the kitchen. We arrived early (party of 2), at around 18:30 on a week night and waited maybe 10-15 minutes for seats at the bar.
A nice experience, I...
Read moreSuper cozy place with friendly staff for some great soup curry. Hokkaido is famed for many types of food and soup curry is on that list. Mog Mog serves up a delectable soup curry that comes in varying degrees of spiciness with tons of spices and fresh vegetables in the soup. You have a choice of the protein in the soup and it also comes with a plate of white rice. From the very first bite of the soup curry I was instantly enthralled in a wonderful mixture of flavor and fragrances. I had only gotten spice level 4, but it was just enough heat to warm the body but not enough to make the flavor unbearable. I had also gotten the time limited pork sausage that was made locally and that was so wonderfully flavored I definitely could have eaten maybe 2 or 3 more of the sausages even! The location is easy to find and definitely worth coming to. Space is quite limited so there might be a queue...

However, we found the queuing time longer than we expected. We started queuing up at 1pm, and there was already 7 people in the queue outside. We thought it wouldn't take long to get in, however from when we started queuing to eating and leaving, the whole experience was about 2 hours. We left at around 3pm. Queue might have been longer than usual as it was a National Holiday. We had the chicken soup curry and the pork belly soup curry. Food was delicious, just as other Google reviews mentionee. Staff of 2. Seemed to be very hard working. The restuarant is quite small, capacity for upto 14 people. Excellent...
