They used SO much blue anise that it actually became nauseating to force it down. I don't mind hot spicy food, but when the only thing I can taste is pure concentrated blue anise it actually made me feel sick to my stomach. My wife couldn't even finish her dish, and she got the mildest version. We're never going to be able to eat there again. I found myself literally thinking "oh god, how much is left? when will this meal finally end?" It was TORTURE to eat it. I don't think I'll be able to eat any dish with blue anise in it for a few months. I love maabo dofu, but I won't be able eat it until next spring because I've been traumatized by the onslaught of blue anise in the noodles that I had at this restaurant.

Maybe someone on staff accidentally dumped an entire bottle of blue anise in our meals and it was a one-time accident. Maybe the staff genuinely doesn't know that they are adding way too much of the stuff... Whatever the case, if the issue isn't fixed, a lot of people will make the same choice that my wife and I made: KoYa was a mistake that we will...

The best TanTanMien you'll ever have. (This side of HK, that , this). OK, that's a bit of a loaded description. Couple of things though

  1. These are slightly toned down Japanese versions of DanDan noodles
  2. If you just want sheer heat, go somewhere else That said, the "tone down" nature works brilliantly, allowing the flavors to interact just right, and make for an excellent bowl of noodles.

For my money, the dry (non soup) versions are the best, though you can go the ramen-ified version if you'd like too. Go at lunch, and have the excellently priced lunchset. There might be a line (the place is very small), but don't worry - you'll make it in in no time at all.

Oh, the shu-mai (dumplings) are...

This was my first time trying Mala noodles—and I couldn’t handle it! 🌶️ My tongue went completely numb, and I couldn’t taste anything else after that, which made it hard for me to enjoy the meal 😅

This numbing and spicy sensation is not for me, my bad I should’ve ordered something else 😭 So please be aware if you’re not familiar with this taste. That said, I believe this place would be perfect for those who love that spicy, numbing flavor. It’s just not for me, but definitely worth a try if you’re into bold, fiery tastes! 🔥🍜

However it was great service during...

This is one of our favorite places to get spicy tantan-ramen! I can't tell how authentic it is but we love the taste. We usually order the Oni(demon) tantanmen and ask for it to be more spicy. If you ask for "motto karai" for spicier and "motto motto karai" for very very spicy :) portions are normal but you can ask for "oomori" for a larger portion and you get a small bowl of rice on the side for free as well if you ask for it. we usually order the gyouza as well! Highly recommended with beer!
