UMAYA by Yokohama Beer — Restaurant in Yokohama

Stopped by UMAYA by Yokohama Beer and was pleasantly surprised by how good it was.

The restaurant/brewery has two levels - the downstairs is more of a bar and the upstairs is the restaurant. The upstairs is very spacious and perfect for large groups or date night. The atmosphere is pleasant and very relaxing. Good choice of music 🎶

The beer is the star here!!! Tried the Beer flight ( 5x times 150ml beer sampler) for ¥1980. They offer a Pilsner, Weizén, Alt, Pale Ale and Larger. My two favourites were the Pilsner and the Pale Ale. Also tried the Brut Pale Ale, which was fantastic. Regular size (350ml) is between ¥800 to ¥1000 and Larger size (568ml) is between ¥1100 to ¥1300.

The food was quite tasty, as well. Ordered the garlic pork and it hit the spot. Good quality and delicious.

Started getting busy around 5:30pm (17:30). Take out beers are available, as well as Yokohama Beer merchandise.

Definitely worth checking out for some good craft beers. Will be back again -...

(June 2011) Contary to the guidance in the gospel (aka the Beer in Japan ap) I didn’t come here when the bar downstairs was open. Rather, I sat like a shag on a rock upstairs in what looks like a Sizzler trying a few beers. Not badly priced around 750 yen for a 440ml but you do get some reasonable head. Atmosphere of course is crap but the service infectionously friendly (perhaps the locals are just happy to see a few Western tourists post tsunami?). I can’t believe how many non-craft beer types (ie groups of yound females, mum & dad types) are just hovering up craft (something I have noticed elsewhere in Japan as well). 出張ついで、平日14時過ぎのランチで訪問。豚キムチ丼。大盛りは無料、ドリンクとサラダが付いて税込1,000円でした。Googleマップの評価が高いので行ってみることにしました。

狙いは日替わりメニューでしたが完売、ボリューム、がっつり重視で豚キムチ丼にしました。

結論申しますと、「ん？」と思うようなギャップ続き、少なくとも豚キムチ丼のリピートはもうないです。

オーダーして、すぐにスープとアイスコーヒーが来ました。まずこのスープがホットコーヒーに見えて、「ん？」と思いました。笑

また一口すすってビックリ。味も面白い。めんつゆが効いた和風テイストでした。これは意外。

そして着丼。なんとヤクルトが付いています。これもビックリですが、嬉しいですね！

なぜヤクルトか？と店員さんに聞いたところ、これはチャンピオンの心意気だそうです。 ボクシング？やるときに毎日一本、欠かせないんだとか。インフルには効くとは聞いてましたが…笑

ここまではいいギャップ、豚キムチ丼は何も悪くはありません。笑

さて、本題です。まずボリュームですが、大盛りにしては量が少ない。これは普通盛りです。

20代後半男子には物足りない！！！泣

そして肝心なお味。これがちょっと残念でした。豚キムチ丼なのにまったりとしていて、パンチがない！！

豚キムチといえば、カップ麺の豚キムを想像するような、濃いめの味を思い浮かべますよね？

塩気が圧倒的に足りないです。ゴマ油が付いてくるんですが、これをかけても補えませんでした（さらにまったりしてしまった！）

ここはきっと、コチュジャンとか辛味噌とか、塩気やコクを引き出す調味料が必要でした。

実は辛さも選べて私はノーマルの１辛としたのですが、辛味を上げれば、改善されるものなのかもしれません。

しかし、これだけの有名店であること、またチャンピオンが登場するメニューの絵から、期待が大き過ぎたためか、かなり「ん？？」という違和感が大きかったです。

大変申し訳ございませんが、この豚キムチ丼自体の評価は★★★☆☆です。

しかし定員さんは大変親切でしたし、種類豊富な日替わりのパスタやお肉料理はきっと美味しいのだと思います。

また本当に広々とした店内で、毎晩さぞ楽しい宴会が繰り広げられているんだろうなと思います。

次回は夜に来て、この目でまた確かめさせていただきますね！
