TLDR: The prices are higher than standard.

For example, basic coffee here is 80,000 kip, as opposed to ~40,000 kip which is typical at most other coffee shops in the area.

Why? This is a high-class establishment that is part of the adjoining hotel.

To use the bathroom, you must go through the back door and use the hotel pool house bathroom.

Because of the high prices, I had assumed it would be acceptable to use the pool, since you enter the pool realm as part of normal operation.

I learned this is not the case, and I was asked to buy at least $10 per person of food and drink in order to access the pool in a way that conforms with policy. It is a nice pool.

The head chef regularly chats with customer and ensures their satisfaction.

Other points: The upstairs area has a wonderful atmosphere. The upstairs porch is great, one of the best in town. Shady but open, great for focused computer work. However, two of the four times I have been to the coffee shop, the upstairs has been closed to the public.

There is a very interesting China-focused newspaper available on the downstairs shelf.

This is not a local place. I would venture that it is the least local place in town, favoring western food and currency, while choosing prices that are low in America but high here.

Much better Western options available around town. Not only are the prices expensive, even for Western standard cafes in town, but then on top of that they add an extra 10% service charge and an extra 10% VAT on the bill (where most others just include this in the price). A small chicken and avocado sandwich and a small size of fries that were undercooked were 75,000 +10% +10%. We also had an omelette that was 65000 +10% +10%, the lettuce with the omelette had dirt on it. Can of coke was 13000 +10% +10%. Then finally when you get your bill it is in baht not in kip so to check the prices you need to calculate yourself. There is no restroom in the building. There is no restroom sign. Even if you ask the staff, they just point their fingers outside and leave.
