The worst experience in Vientiane... Waiter mistook our order, when we asked they never got back to us until i have to grab a waiter to ask what’s going on, after 15 minutes of waiting. (Restaurant wasn’t even full at all, believe me) When we called the waiter eventually he was like (with oh about that - attitude) ‘kitchen said NO, can’t help.’ So we asked manager(probably owner) for a bill and she said so sorry to leave us a bill including super tough steak’s full charge. (fyi we ordered medium rare, had 2 bites to test and asked for change) No explanation again. So we turned the bill back to the waiter asking for clarification. He again said ‘kitchen charged 100%’ and no chef, no manager came to say anything. So we turned it back again asking ‘that’s not fair, order was taken wrong and that’s not our fault’ and there bill came back with 1 strike through at steak price, the whole price not even summed up. We felt so disrespected, and paid 50% of steak out of courtesy to walk out. But until the end nobody from restaurant showed us a respect.
It’s so sad cause whole time we thought, we are hungry, and the food here wasn’t any good,(even the other food was very interesting... too much corianders make broth too bitter) we do deserve some respect at least to get the explanation of what’s going on, not left behind wondering if our food is getting fixed.
Giving 1 star to nice atmosphere and quirky interior but food and service was so poor, and absolutely no respect. Kitchen, and the counter is like 5 steps away from u and no one tells u what’s going on with ur wrong order? If it was local lao street food, no complains, but because it’s formal restaurant, our experience was...
Read moreCame here 2 days in row out of my 3-day trip in Vientiane, and it’s unusual to me No brainer was my favorite spot and the most delightful thing that I had there. Ordered beef tartare at the first day: it was so tender, clean-cut, with decent amount of coriander to balance out the onions, it’s simple but flavorful, thought that dipping was mustard but was told by the chef it’s mayonnaise with onions, it goes great with either the fries or mix it up into the tartare, just personally prefer the dice is a bit smaller, haha And then had the duck confit on the second day: it’s jubilant from the presentation to the taste, it’s not dry at all, neither greasy, yet still easily apart the meat from the bone, and surprisingly the skin goes crisp all the way long til my last bite, the plants around make every single bite such an interesting structure, adding longan gives it slightly sweet after all the savory flavors, either white or red wine makes it even better, speechless. Ended up with the dessert Baba au Rhum which was recommended by the this happy staff named Nu/New there. This dish is fluffy, moist and creamy, not crazy sweet but so satisfying. Nice presentation, nice vibes, as well as the team, they look like a family, which makes the food so tasty, I appreciate it, gonna miss all theses...
Read moreWe ordered the Christmas dinner course meal, which is def expensive for the city. But hey it was Christmas anyway. The main meal which is a fish quenelle with Lao flavor was truly disappointing. The shrimp sauce didn't work and was too fishy. I am speaking as a Southeast Asian woman who grew up in the coastal area. The appetizer was good (buffalo mozarella with beef tomatoes and clams au gratin.)
The dates with goat cheese was also really good. I didn't like the dessert. It was too heavy (three choco balls that felt flour-heavy) and a bit too sweet for me. It would've been great to offer something more citrusy and light at the end of the meal since the date-goat cheese dish is also similarly heavy, compact, sweet, earthy. Perhaps a hollow chocolate ball with passion fruit inside? On a similar note: Personally, I'd love it more if there was some dash of citrus on the salads accompanying the appetizer, as well as the fish main dish.
No option to pay by card or OnePay. It would take me months to consider coming back because of the disappointing...
