Overall okay breakfast experience, but I was shocked to see that additional 10% was added to the bill for service (which is not common practice in this country, not even in restaurants). I would hope that service is included in the price if tea costs almost 5 euros. Still wondering what the 5 euros were for. I doubt the tea was brought in with an express courrier that morning straight from Sri Lanka. I guess I paid for the interior design and the location.
It's quite an interesting strategy, everything on the menu is shown 10% cheaper than it actually costs. I would hope the service fee / tip is tax free and 100% of it goes to the staff, which, by the way, were very pleasant and did a great job. Although probably not since VAT would apply to service and it was on the receipt.
After leaving, the service fee gave me an after-taste of screwed over and milked, and yet I'd be in the wrong for "saying the staff does not deserve to be paid" and having to have a confrontation. Great psychological engineering! Lets see how it works out in the long run. I assume most people in this location don't even look at the bill, so it should work quite well. I assume this curates the clientele over time (as some people might not be fans of the pre-set service fee aftertaste), might be able to get away with raising the fee to 12% if not 15%...
Read moreThe staff is super incompetent and rude, don’t speak english. We wanted to have brunch there - all the tables outside were occupied at that moment, but some where ready to pay or were just leaving - we asked 3 times if it is possibly to wait for a table - firstly we were totally ignored (although the waiters were obviously bored), after second time the girl answered with “there are already people waiting inside for a table outside” - no “if you wait a couple of minutes we can definitely look for a table for you”, no answer also to the question if she could approximately tell us how long will we wait for a table. It looked like 3 tables were leaving. We asked again - the waiter didn’t know how to answer or help us. I have never felt more unwelcome to a place like here. The food looked good though. After a smell of canalization came up, we decided to just leave as the waiters didn’t even bothered to welcome us to this place....
Read moreUsed to be one of my favourite places in Riga to eat but the experience I had recently ruined it all. First when I arrived, I got a dirty table, with no napkins, no cutlery. On a dirty table the waitress put the napkin and then I had to ask to clean it before things are put on it. That could have been ignored if the food was good but … that was even worse. The pancakes I ordered were dry, cold and for a price of 12€ honestly not worth it at all. Once I paid and left the table, the waitress immediately started to prepare it for the next guests. So in this case I really felt like I was just there as an unwelcome customer. The waitress also couldn’t prioritise the duties right - serving people that just came in before the ones that came some time before and haven’t been served properly which in this...
