Absolutely 1st class experience! I've been coming to Riga for the last 16 years and for some unknown reason have never eaten here - cue a quick phone call on the off-chance they may have a free table for 4 and boom 💥. 15 minutes later I was seated on the terrace with my family! Service was excellent - efficient, professional, and never having to look for the staff as they always appeared at the right time!
The food was fantastic! Not just "for the price point" or "for the city" but simply flat out fantastic. There are Michelin stars and Bib Gourmand in Riga, but I will be returning here first.
From the amuse bouche with its playful sweet and salty contrasts, to the excellent breads and the simple but thoughtful menu to the ambience, you start to anticipate a great meal - I'd heard good things courtesy of other reviewers and they were right!
Delicious, well-priced, well presented food that satisfied all the senses! 4 very happy Anglo-Latvians! (2A,2C(15 & 11))
Beef Tartare 5/5 Potato Rosti 5/5 (11 didn't like capers or the goat cream cheese but thoroughly enjoyed everything else!) Scallops 5/5 Venison Salad 5/5 (I don't do salads, but this was exceptionally well balanced and seasoned.)
Homemade pasta with local venison 5/5 (arrived at table 1st, it smelt amazing and had us all wondering if we'd made the wrong choice!) Beef cheeks 5/5 (11y.o. loved this even though he didn't touch the caramelised onions) Duck confit 5/5 (Perfect! Every component was excellent and the combination absolutely nailed it! That carrot puree though, I'd happily eat my own bodyweight in it!) Salmon fillet 5/5 (The smile and doe-eyes on my wife's face said it all!)
Chocolate fondant x 4. 5/5 (2 with vanilla ice cream & 2 with sea buckthorn ice cream) It can be challenging for fondant to turn out correctly - we all seen people get it wrong, even experienced chefs but all 4 of these had that satisfying gooey ooze of chocolate when broken into! Unctious and positively sinful! (The sea buckthorn ice cream went very well with the fondant and is worth trying on its own, it is delicious!
All in all, I would absolutely recommend that anyone with a palate that likes the finer flavours, textures, and presentation of their food gets on the phone or the Internet and gets themselves here for some excellent food in great surroundings!

Read moreThis restaurant was a hoot! Fantastic experience. We were really struggling to find places we wanted to try as vegetarians in Riga and after looking at the menu online here we gave it a try (lots of recommendations for vegetarians if you go out into the newer part of the city but we were exhausted and wanted to stay close to the hotel). We walked in without reservations which was fine, but apparently construction down the street had just cut off their water entirely so we were the last guests they let in and turned others away. So this was not a usual day for them but they were 150% service wise to make this a great experience for us. The server dashed off to pull the last water out of the coffee machine to make us a pot of water, which was super sweet of her. They did tell us we could only do appetizers, as they couldn't boil pasta, which had been our main draw. But we did three of the appetizers and they were great! The friendliness and fun of the experience, a luxurious pace as they slowly emptied out from the lunch hour, and even some guy coming in to film a few minutes for his tv show or whatever. All made for a fun and relaxed experience. After a local tea blend was delivered (very nice) they served us a carrot mousse to start with and bread with three flavored butters (these were all on the house and a nice welcome!). then we ordered the salmon rosti for me (delicious!), a caramelized goat cheese salad, also delicious, and some kind of cabbage salad with tofu for my friend. We ordered the seasonal ice cream flavors for dessert and. they were delicious as promised. Overall a fantastic experience and I highly recommend heading in for what should be delightful on...
Read moreWe walked into this restaurant on a Monday: fully booked. Made a reservation for the following evening, and we're glad we did.
The restaurant breathes a nice local vibe. Staff are quick to respond and very professional (to a point that it's almost too business-like). We were quickly seated and served the water we ordered, and after a brief perusing of the wine list, we ordered a tasty Chablis and a similar Vinho Verde. The restaurant does not offer many wines by the glass, but they have enough to offer ample choice.
A good-looking and tasty amuse bouche was served on a nice wooden board, followed by a bread basket and homemade butters. We ordered steak tartare and the salmon-potato rosti's as starters, and they were delicious. Plenty of texture and flavour, and the dishes looked great on a plate.
For a main, we ordered the catfish and the lamb shank, which were both incredibly well cooked. The lamb fell off the bone and the vegetables were cooked to perfection. It was also appreciated that the waiter advised a different red wine than initially ordered with the lamb, because he said it would match the lamb better (he was right; the wine matched very well and it was a good change). The Pavlova we ordered for dessert was excellent too; a perfect mix of sweet (the sugar and whipped cream), tart (the fruit sauce) and sour (the fruit).
The total bill for water, six glasses of wine and all the food was under €130 for two people, which is great value for the experience and the quality of the dinner. We would recommend this place for sure if you're looking for a very nice evening out, with some great food and...
